@kistaro Oh, god, and it's a coffee maker. "Can I make you a coffee? How about some espresso? A latte? Maybe a flat white? How about a cortado?"

"Shut up."

"Wait, no, I have one more question."

"It's... not about hot coffee, is it?"

"No! I wouldn't waste your time like that!"

"Go ahead."

"Can I make you an affogato?"

re: bad raccoon, shenanigans, terfs, arguable nationalistic slur

@Soreth I KNEW SOMEONE WOULD GET THE REFERENCE <3 <3 <3 <3

bad raccoon, shenanigans, terfs, arguable nationalistic slur

I ran into a particularly unpleasant TERF on Twitter and noticed that most of her tweets were in Russian.

Apparently possessed by the spirit of Sacha Baron Cohen, I translated "Turnip rutabaga tractor, polonium vodka, ruble, nadsat circus bear, comrade pelmeni buttocks, babushka?" into Cyrillic with Google Translate and left it as a comment.

I'm neither particularly proud nor ashamed of this, though I'm afraid I am inordinately amused by my own sheer pettiness. I am in a high mischief/low empathy mood tonight I guess. Don't mess with things bored raccoons love.

re: SEMPAI NOTICED ME

@zx3 TV's Frank is just such a stand-up guy even totally divorced from MST3K...

@chimerror Hmmm. After a brief search, this is the least petty and annoying resource I can find on the few technical differences...

SEMPAI NOTICED ME

This is one of my favorite musicians of all time. I saw him in concert in Boston once, and he spent most of his set telling stories about airplane silverware and playing with a plastic spoon at us. He wrote the official Postvixen anthem, "I Wanna Be An Anglepoise Lamp." I love Robyn like an uncle.

(I was making fun of a hypothetical John Cleese GPS module.)

snark, shenanigans, petty cruelty, kink

One of those days where I kinda wish I knew enough about web design to make a bot that would scrape FurAffinity, e621, and fchan for keywords like "vore," "sounding," and "unbirth" and anonymously repost them to the timelines of TERFs.

Just to remind them that trans people are the LEAST scary things in their fragile little worlds, and if they're not nicer to us, we will drop all pretense of politeness and stop holding the gates closed. :>

nola weather

It's pretty good.

Sorry, everybody. O:)

re: geeking out big time, military history, architecture

@Leucrotta Yeah, he did get mentioned in the Wiki article for Goryokaku!

geeking out big time, military history, architecture

Star forts!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastion_

These came up at work today as I was researching a famous one in Japan. (goo.gl/maps/vBxRhfqkJ4bFSu1fA)

Basically, I just love anything that has a huge specialty vocabulary, and I could nerd out over all the little spokes and spikes and moats and outcroppings of these things for hours. Plus, as military bases go, they're real pretty.

Man, I wish Mid-City in NOLA had a ravelin. =(^).(^)= (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravelin)

gender (+?)

There's something unironically comforting about someone laughing at me and saying, "Oh, come on. You're not cis."

I dunno if I'm trans, either. But I've been more comfortable with a feminine or neuter (or in the case of Kirsch here, "it can not be expressed with this character set") identity online since for about 20 years, so I'm probably _something_.

Just don't lock the clubhouse doors on me as things get uglier out there, okay, folks? I'm pretty sure there are at least a few valid stamps left on my Trans Passport, even if ever doing anything about it in RL is just a distant dream—and even if I'm increasingly OK with that, because I just don't give that much of a shit about meat.

dreams, abandonment, regret, The Thing (-)

Heh. Oh, yeah. I guess I had another dream about THEM last night. They were mad.

Well, one of the three of them was actually very nice. And it bewildered me. I was so happy and confused and excited for the chance to patch things up.

And then SHE showed up and started laying into me. I remember her face just got redder and redder with rage, the more I tried and failed to communicate with her.

It ain't like that, brain. But you know, if she's gonna demonize me for not winning her guessing games, there's no reason to hold you to a higher standard. We held out and thought the best of them for as long as we could.

Anyhow, it was another one of those "stuck alone at a furry con" dreams, where y'all just kept wandering off with the people I was staying with and forgetting to invite me alone, so it was plenty depressing on its own.

I really hope I can get back to dreaming about being hounded by monsters, zombies, and aliens soon. Or maybe back to that college where I forgot to ever go to class. Nobody needs _this_ shit.

@sig Haha, ok, that was not short. Bloody typical of me. :D

re: snark, pol, birdsite, discourse, hatred, cancellation, mushrooms on pizzas, and all the other terrible things on earth

@sig Quicky reply since it's a busy workday and I gotta bunch of packing and chore for my holiday trip...

Yeah, you basically got it with your description of the coworker. Once upon a time I might have been enough of a centrist jerkass to actually _engage_ someone like that, but today it's more like... I just don't want that energy right now.

I think it's another one of those things left over from the whole process of building up an immunity to Christianity and conservatism when I was a teenager. I mostly agree with you about the social power argument—transphobia is a MUCH MUCH MUCH more realistic problem than cisphobia—I think I'm always going to be wary of people who are really comfortable about making broad judgements about who's worth "canceling" (their term, and I kinda hate it?) based purely on an accident of demographics.

I would've been 120% OK with it and probably leaping in on their side if they'd said "all transphobes are hereby canceled forever." But I just know too damn many cispeople—includng, um, arguably me?—who would lay down their lives for the transpeople in their circles.

And I'm always a little skeptical of the "prejudice only matters if it's along dominant lines of social power" argument—'cause the political is still personal, and watching someone torch a whole group of people purely over demographics kinda sucks regardless of the power imbalance between them.

Still, I agree with what you said about these folks mostly being scared trans kids with a lot to be afraid of right now. I've gotten better at blowing that stuff off and chalking it up to a very valid need to blow off steam—the same way I'll talk very loosely about conservatives and Christians, even though I KNOW there are exceptions. Because, like this poor kid on Twitter probably is, I'm real tired atm of waiting for them to actually *appear*.

But this kid was talking in terms that negated the humanity of... a whole lot of people, and that's always gonna raise warning flags for me. Just... bad energy, you know?

They seemed so damn confident that they'd drawn the dividing lines exactly right and anybody who believed otherwise could fuck off—and like I said recently, I'm just getting real tired of people who are that confident they're not committing the same old cognitive sins. I just don't have time for people who don't show ANY self-awareness or humility when they go off and make a dictum at the world like that. Historically, I don't think people like that have brought much joy to the world. :|

But yeah. My honest hope for them is that the world gets better for transfolk and the pressure is taken off of them. It's the thought process, at worst, that I see as evil—not the kid in question, who's basically just a host. As are we all. :<

Anyhow, thanks as usual for standing up to me and keeping me honest. :D Hope you're having a good week!

passing pseudo-profound thought

I think my litmus test for whether I can get along with somebody is whether they can tell the functional difference between "reality" and "realism."

(HINT: The first one doesn't magically change along with your worldview...)
