@hummingrain I'm up! Raqun angey. >_< My rush work job is kinda awesome but I lost two hours of work to a Chrome "feature" that kept eating my homework and couldn't be turned off in the normal settings. >___<

@Phorm I'm a bit sad nobody voted for Jonah-era, 'cause they really ain't bad at all, and they were just hitting their stride when #$@%!#$!# Netflix canceled 'em, but yeah, I started in '90 with Joel and I've still got a soft spot for his sleepy-eyed-uncle charm. Mike is perfectly good too, though, and I do love Pearl. There's really no specific era I hate--though TBH I don't think anyone handled host segments as well as Joel. Some of the Pearl-era segments have great riff and great characterization but the jokes are just FLAT. ("Send... Mike... Down!")
re: general update (++), mild uspol (+)
@JulieSqveakaroo Yeah, that was a big morale booster too, as was an article I read that reminded me the GOP has blown a whole BUNCH of elections Trump tried to take a hand in.
I'm still nervous because the Irish betting sites, my go-to (even though they fucked up their 2016 predictions like everybody else) are giving Trump something like 1.15 to 1 in favor of winning, but I'm hoping the next round of COVID-response polling will wipe that lead out...
@kistaro You have NO CLUE how much you've helped me, do you... <3

general update (++), mild uspol (+)
Just got back from a long walk with Peg and a really productive chat about Parallax plotlines, so my morale is back to positive numbers. Tentatively back, but I'm gonna try to _mostly_ stay out of politics for a while.
On that one, though, I've relaxed a little on the Hold Your Nose And Vote Biden front. He's doing well in swing states, which is all I care about, and _enough_ Bernie supporters have accepted his endorsement that I feel reasonably confident we could beat Trump AND send a message to the DNC.
And FWIW, I've forgiven the DSA for refusing to endorse Biden. It just... ain't their job. Vote Biden anyhow, vote the *shit* out of lower-ballot progressives, and help me stick it to him good and hard in 2021 if he steps out of line.
Anyhow, good to be back. I missed you all a lot, even you filthy commie refuseniks. :D
re: uspol, rant, brace yourselves kids
@Zordrak Yeah, honestly, the more I hector people to vote for Biden the more I hate myself--the best I can tell people is it's treading water until the rescue boat comes. And I don't know if there is a rescue boat. ;_; I think trying to focus on the Senate is a fine and sensible idea for anyone who just can't bring themselves to vote Biden.
uspol, rant, brace yourselves kids
I'm not gonna back off on hectoring people to vote for Biden anytime soon, so if you're going to take offense at it, you are cordially welcomed to take a zero-fault vacation from me until November.
I'll say this, though: if you're absolutely determined not to vote for him, I understand. But you know what I do demand?
A goddamn plan. No amount of complaining on social media will make Bernie president from 2020-2024. A certain amount of playing refusenik with your votes *will* make Trump president from 2020-2024. And I'm actually OKAY with you refusing to vote, but...
You had better be prepared to do something more than complain if Trump gets re-elected. Myself, I can't see the tactical advantage of having an openly hostile, intractable lunatic to protest against instead of The Usual Slimy Old Neo-Liberal Democrat.
But we were going to have to apply pressure to either one in order to get the country we actually want. Just don't act like your refusal to vote Biden is going to move the DNC one inch.
I think we've got a far better chance if we get Trump the fuck out of office and THEN apply the pressure to the DNC. I think if you've got a better plan, you should tell us what it is, and I might support it, because I am NOT happy about this.
But I've already had to live through eight years of Bush and four years of Trump, and now I'm facing the prospect of another four years of Trump _and_ a conservative-packed Supreme Court that might just run us into the ground. So forgive me if I'm asking your moral perfectionism to take a back seat to Realpolitik right now.
And if Biden gets in and nothing really changes for the better, I will make up for my grouchiness by going ALL THE FUCK IN on helping you protest, strike, organize, and generally tear shit up. Promise. Save this screenshot and use it as a coupon--but I ALREADY wanted to give Biden nine kinds of hell the moment he got elected. 🤷
Also, this one is not negotiable: you'd better look for progressives and socialists in your local and state elections and go support THEM. I might actually be willing to cut you some slack if you do that and stop short of voting Biden. But we gotta win back SOME power, right now, or it's gonna get real bad.
re: mh (--)
@zx3 If you haven't tried the ice cream yet, you definitely should. I took your inspiration and lured myself out of my own bed with a pint of strawberry sorbet and here I am, upright and everything.

I'm not really OK but I'm not going anywhere. *shrug* I can't, too many obligations. I just had my first little urge, in almost a year, to just give the fuck up and let everything dissipate into shit.
uspol, not nice
Don't you fucking dare refuse to vote for Biden if you (a) don't have any plan for what to do about Trump and (b) wish to retain any right to complain between 2020 and 2024 if he does get elected...
·
Otherwise, sure, go nuts and follow your conscience---but if you elect Trump by omission, you'd better put this same fanatical energy into saving us from him.
I'll accept 3rd party/abstention from voting... if it's also a commitment to protests, strikes, and revolution. Otherwise, at this point, honestly you can piss right off.
But if the determination of my leftist friends to accept nothing but a socialist candidate is as strong as that of my leftist friends who threatened to move to Canada in 2004... yeah, you're not gonna accomplish a fucking thing. >_<
@xinjinmeng Spaced can kinda sneak up on you like that. *hug*
re: mh (+), birdsite, second bananas
@001zlnv That's unrelated. Two separate stories.
re: mh (+), birdsite, second bananas
