@LexYeen dammit kid you talk like black blood of the earth weren't already there for people like us, the strong
@mawr I want to learn how to lucid dream, exclusively so I can cast Jack and Shemp in my own private mismatched buddy-investigator comedy.
Together, they... uh... get about 4% of the way through solving crimes before the lose interest. *shrug*
comics, gaming
oh my god, the ending totally makes this
came up during a thread on the game design of candyland which devolved into a fedorabrawl over whether it's "really a game" *sigh*
anti-work philosophy, hard-boiled space detectives
Found this clip to use as a response to a thread about post-employment economies on Birdsite. It's from one of my favorite things of all time, ZBS Audio's "Ruby: Adventures of a Galactic Gumshoe," and it feels awfully relevant to Our Discourse given it was recorded in 1982...

@LexYeen It is so nice to spend every day with your best friend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg29TuWo0Yo&t=600s

@eredien go for it! :D
random film idea, trope speculation, perhaps a prophecy, spoilers for Russian Doll
I think it's safe to say we've pretty much exhausted the basic Groundhog Day infinite timeloop trope.
So the next phase is going to be finite loops. The hero _thinks_ they're going into an inexhaustible loop, but they find out that it's decaying.
We've already seen this start to happen. Russian Doll and one of the Xmas episodes of American Dad (I know, I know) come to mind. I think there are others.
But the _next_ revisionist genre phase after that: someone else has already gotten their hands on the mechanism. The loops are handed out by some intractable authority and the protagonist must "earn" more by doing something morally compromising.
It's coming. The math is flawless. :3

reddit, shenanigans, transphobia, tolerance (+)
I am pleasantly surprised by how often I'm getting upvoted for demolishing transphobes and their "it's just a FACT" nonsense with actual nuance. Especially on the skeptic communities, which I frankly expected to be... beardier. :p
But yeah, popping up on /r/skeptic and saying "trans woman are men and you're delusional if you think otherwise" is a good way to get blue-arrowed to death and that gives me a lowkey sense of relief.
@JulieSqveakaroo Darlin, we are all pulling for you and Raccoon. You don't have to apologize for a thing.

@rjl20@octodon.social @anthracite @KinkyTurtle Still exceptional background information, thank you! n.n Also a pretty reasonable assumption given the lack of full context! I mean, I believe there is some cultural precedent in English for "Starfucker?"
@rjl20@octodon.social @anthracite @KinkyTurtle No, no, rhis is definitely about fucking actual astrological bodies, not celebrities. :) Thank you for the insight!

reminiscing
@JulieSqveakaroo @zx3 Oh. My. God. That brings back a huge memory: the Burly Bear network.
So apparently there was an indie music/comedy cable startup that was sharing space with one of the community access channels in Somerville, MA.
And I don't have great memories of them or what they showed, but it was all WEIRD and they had one of the last really GOOD video blocks I saw after the demise of MTV's soul.
I'll be grateful to them for the rest of my life for introducing me to the late Trish Keenan's Broadcast:

@zx3 (but this is an EXCELLENT suggestion and I hadn't thought of using this to track Julie's show down! <3 <3 <3 )
