It's Pride Month, but honestly...

(a) you critters are the only segment of the queer community I've ever felt remotely welcomed by

(b) I've never fit into any neat LGBT+ category

(c) Right now "in RL" I guess I'm pretty much just some cishet guy who happens to be engaged to a woman with a Y chromosome (I'm sure this shocks you all utterly), which doesn't really even qualify me as queer, certainly not by the standards of most Earnest Young Millennial And Zoomer Activists

So I don't really have much to say. Rawr, rawr, I'm a tigress. Chirr, chirr, I'm a raccoon. Most of my OCs are female for reasons I don't even really bother examining anymore. And one of my facemasks has glittery rainbow zebra stripes on it, I guess. *shrug*

I don't do much else queer anymore except for rally for queerer people and draw a comic that... should probably be much queerer, honestly, given what people are getting away with in the mainstream.

Let me know when it's Sloth, Gluttony, or Envy Month. I *know* I'm qualified for those. I'll leave this one to shinier, more colorful people than me.

Well, FWIW, I've now heard from the whitest of white America -- i.e., my Ohioan parents, who hate both Biden and Trump about equally.

Mom did the expected "listen, once you're burning down your own community it's not a protest" dance, but she did actually listen patiently to my counterarguments. And (kinda expected from a Kent State massacre survivor), she's more pissed off at the police than she is about the protests. If her reaction is any indication, yeah, the Midwest ain't necessarily buying the right's line about what's happening.

Apparently the protests are MUCH BIGGER in NE Ohio than I'd expected. Cleveland, Akron, and Canton were virtually shut down. They're also apparently missing my niece and her boyfriend's apartment in Columbus by all of a few blocks. Yikes. There was even a protest in my shithole hometown, but to my pride and astonishment, it was totally peaceful...

Called the SLC police department and screamed bloody murder at them for the footage of them shoving an old man with a cane to the ground.

I... I may have made some pig noises before I hung up. I somehow doubt they've got the resources right now to hassle every single person who's called to harass them right now, but just in case... I wanted some record of it.

I don't think what I did was technically even illegal, though. And I'm practically spoiling for them to try to make something out of it, honestly, even though I know they almost certainly won't. I should be so lucky. I'd love to be some pro bono lawyer or progressive journalist's excuse.

I'm just so fucking angry.

@Phorm I mean, my rule of thumb is if they're demonizing people for SELF-identifying with this label is they can basically go fuck themselves anyhow. In my opinion those are the sort of people who, when they speak you can see the OTHER side of the stick at the back of their throat. >_<

@Phorm Yeah, this one is kind of personal territory for me, because I had a bisexual friend in college who was constantly getting shit from her Earnest Young Radical Lesbian older sister for Selling Out The Movement and not being A Real And Virtuous Lesbian. So I probably have a lot of personal prejudice at work in this one and would love to see if I'm just kneejerking my own reflexive bias here.

If that *is* what it turns out to be and it's just one more "You're Not X Enough (or political enough about it) To Be Allowed In Our Club," don't let it get to you. There are always gonna be people like that and you're not beholden to them in the least. @Phorm Honestly, I probably can't help you, because when I see someone splitting terminological hairs to the point of hating people personally, I usually just unfollow and block.

YMMV and you are a good geniefox for wanting to understand the problem better---I do look forward to you sharing any answer you get, because there might be a valid grievance at the core of this one.

I have a suspicion it ties into the old stereotype of "college lesbian" women who supposedly aren't really committed to the lifestyle and political world, though I can only guess as to whether this person is offended because they *do* or *don't* think that demographic really exists.

Honestly, at first glance it does smell a bit gatekeepy to me and it leaves me wary that it's part of some "not lesbian enough" thing, but I'd like to know more about their actual motives. Even if I'm gonna end up shaking my head at someone, I want to at least want to do it based on a fair understanding...

I am going to remind you that ninja/monk techniques work better in these occasions than samurai techniques.

Ask not "how can I attack this person full force," but "how can I cause this asshole the maximal frustration with the least emotional labor for myself."

@Leucrotta Let's just say everybody's got a certain quota, and I do try to adjust that quota individually depending on how much known stress that person is under, and how nice they've been to me in the past. :) I'm not gonna say you haven't been pretty salty, but I'm also pretty sure I can't say the same about myself...
