horribly resonant comedy monologue, mood snapshot, mood/mh (--), dark, bleak
"He'd been standing there for a good ten minutes, just staring straight ahead of him. And suddenly he swung his leg over the parapet and dropped off. He hit the ground very hard and lay there stunned for a second and dragged himself to his feet and back inside."
"In about thirty seconds he reappeared again, hurled himself off head-first, landed on his chin, got up again, staggered about, went inside, came out again one the balcony, dived off, and did it again and again and again. He just kept on going."
"I couldn't hear anything although the window was open, until I suppose the wind must have changed and it was possible to tell that he was sobbing in quite a wretched way. And after about twenty jumps there must have been fifteen people just standing around staring at him in a semicircle. Nobody was raising a finger. Didn't seem appropriate really. He seemed locked into a very private act."
"Towards the end they had to help him inside because he really was quite badly broken up. I don't think he could have made it up the stairs by himself. And after about forty jumps, he just... didn't get up anymore."
"Apparently somebody asked him what he was doing and he... he said he wanted to jump 40 times off a first-floor balcony rather than straight off the top of a tall building, in case he decided to change his mind at any point."
"And clearly he didn't."
--Chris Morris, "Jam" (Episode 1), also exactly how I'm feeling today having to exist in this stupid fucking world
(I am not actively self-destructive, just... really despairing a bit about the world, its value, and my security in it. I'm just so fucking weary and feeling so isolated down here.)
re: leftpol, social media, exhaustion, snark
i could go on for hours about why i think the "i will ban anyone who has even the faintest sympathy or agreement for our enemies" mentality is a huge sucker trap and will surely only fuck us over, but instead how about you just imagine a zebra monk shoving a copy of the Dao De Jing deep within some social justice berserker's nasal cavity
^________^
re: leftpol, social media, exhaustion, snark
and honestly at this point if you don't like that opinion i am so ok with that
because if you can't tell the difference between "i oppose this social justice principle" and "i am seriously worried that people on my side could do unjust things in the pursuit of this principle, because I've watched it happen before" well honestly fuck you at this point
it would be like you were a racing fan and you decided i was incredibly hostile to your whole hobby because i didn't like your idea of "wouldn't it be more exciting if we taped cinder blocks to the accelerator pedals"
leftpol, social media, exhaustion, snark
"i am going to very noisily and publicly announce that i am banning everyone who so much as liked a comment saying maybe burning down the property of people who wield little or no institutional power isn't a 100% ideal social justice praxis" is just a little bit high on the Woke Purity dial for me, sorry
uspol, violence, power fantasies, personal moral decay
The odds that I will go out of this life with an explosive vest and a lengthy manifesto increase day after day. Not soon, but someday.
The main thing holding me back at this point is the fact my parents, Peggy, and the cats are still around. If that were ever to change, I just might have to, say, stroll into the Russian Embassy or a Identity Evropa meeting and discorporate very very quickly and forcibly one of these days.
Somebody's gotta do it. And I never thought it would be me, but the bulwark values that prevented me have been shat upon so often in the course of the last six years, the me that didn't have a Sixty Shallow Graves list seems unrecognizable.
I wish I could even say I was tired of feeling so fucking angry, but I'm really just getting started. If we had our own real Baader-Meinhoff or Weathermen instead of just Antifa, I'd be funding them hand over fist. But (now that I have a little cash) I'd be funding Antifa if I knew where to send the checks. :)
Shit, I wish we would embrace cyberterrorism. I could just fund that and nobody would have to get hurt directly. And I would fund the shit out of it. Surely with the diversity of skills in our various communities, we've got SOMEONE who can hit these people where it really hurts. Like their private texts. *coughgaetzcough*
@Leucrotta I'm in. Shit, I'll help you harvest the nails. >____<
worldpol, uspol, mh/mood (--), omnicidal misanthropy, possibly contagious
I had a real depressing morning after looking at the news and seeing that Russia's been ratting their saber at us over the Ukraine again.
But don't worry. Then I read some tweets by antivaxxers and election conspiracists and now I feel pretty comfortable about the total extermination of humanity again. 🙄
re: general offer of assistance; research skills
@Soreth Herbert Grönemeyer?
@xinjinmeng @anthracite That's exactly how you should feel about Antigravity. They're... undeniably culturally informed and progressive, but they're also dour as fuck in that Jello Biafra, "are you in fact capable of smiling without smirking" sort of way. I love-hate them a lot. >__<
general offer of assistance; research skills
Someone made a very good post about intentional communities and how-- unlike with office-culture capitalism-- seemingly ordinary skills can be precious and valuable to such a community. <3
And that reminded me: folks, I LOVE doing research for people. If anyone didn't know, my day job is web research for a GPS company. So I'm fairly good at navigating web resources and digging up obscure sites.
If there's ever anything you just don't know where to find, or just don't have the executive function to think about on a given day, I am generally delighted to help you dig. This especially goes for interesting cultural deep-dives, but I'm equally happy to help with mundane stuff like digging up tax forms and navigating badly designed store locators.
Just hit me up! Worst you'll get is a "having a rough week, can't guarantee I'll get to it soon." (Or me accidentally losing track of your DM because my executive functions crash sometimes too. :) )

@monsterblue @anthracite I STRONGLY discourage you from this until you've at least read the Book of the Chungus in its entirety, preferably in the original Akkadian. Otherwise you're just asking for a PK event that would make Ivo Shandor himself soil his robes.</egon_spengler>
@JulieSqveakaroo GOOD GOOD GOOD GOOD GOOD. I can relax a little now and I hope you both have gotten to, too. <3
