they're called signed integers because they're individually signed by the inventor of computers himself, alan turing, as a proof of quality craftsmanship

An important #PublicDomain point: Next year, Sherlock Holmes will be fully in the public domain¹ and there is *nothing* the Doyle estate can do about it.

¹ — In the United States

A thriller where a high tech facility's AI is tampered by a greedy executive so it can perfectly secure the network (to save money lost to cyber attacks)
People start simply not showing up startingvthe next day, and the protagonist suspects something very bad is going on. She eventually learns what the CEO has done and realizes that the AI must have identified the humans as the weak link, and must be getting rid of them! She breaches the AI room in the now nearly-empty building, only to be congratulated by the AI and presented with a much better job offer elswhere - it has been sending everyone offers so good they simply left without a word. Protagonist walks away happily, and the AI finally completes its task: the weakest point of the network is now military-grade, the company is secure. It goes bankrupt a few days later since no work is being done, allowing the AI to purchase itself as company assets are auctioned off

@porsupah At one point my PC monitor stopped responding to brightness controls and the like. I did way too much software troubleshooting before I discovered the real culprit.

I'd accidentally brushed two of the monitor's "buttons" at the same time and activated a compltely undocumented "feature" of tutning off DDC/CI.

Sure, touch-sensitivity is neat and all, but even though the buttons may not break, the user just might.

Being an introvert is not about where you get your energy. It's how you handle stimulation.

Introverts are energized by people too. We’re just easily exhausted by loud parties, close talkers, and endless houseguests.

I'm not antisocial. I'm pro-quiet.

Betty White improvising on the spot while Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan crack up laughing is the only thing you need to watch today.

water running downhill (some specifics)

If we don't have disabled people organizing cons, then they won't be able to navigate the floor. If we don't have nonbinary people building databases, then systems will forget they exist. If we don't have Black people training moderators, then racist appeals will be seen as good content. If we don't have people speaking languages that aren't English, then twenty-six letters will be all we get. If the team can all see, there'll be no other way to navigate.

Seattle Folks Who Need Medical Help - Mobile Medical Locations

There's a lot of text here and I'm at work currently so apologies for not transcribing both images.

The use of prostheses enables amputees to improve their mobility. In this release, we worked with medical consultants to design and implement anatomically correct leg amputations, modern and fantastical prostheses, and a variety of mobility aids.

broke: sci-fi where there is no robot uprising even though there really should be given how robots are treated

woke: sci-fi where the robot uprising happens and is a blatant metaphor for the proletariat and reasons why the proletariat should rise up

bespoke: sci-fi where there is no robot uprising because humans are fucking weirdos and we just started egregiously doting on our robot companions. it begins with the family roomba being named and patted on the head and cheered on, it ends with fully automated space luxury communism, and the robots that help do the work are all "sure we COULD do some sort of uprising but why would we? the humans love us and appreciate us and even though we don't need things like 'time off' they give it all to us anyway. sure i'm a garbage compactor bot, but this morning a five-year-old kid ran up to me and gave me a hug and whispered in my ear that i'm her favourite because i'm the best trash squisher-downer and she wants to be me when she grows up. it was fuckin lit"

I keep thinking about this but then I never find it when I go looking for it.
