And today, after being on this system since its release, Windows 10 suddenly has this to say (note the lime-green circles)

No, Windows I'm not going to activate you. I'm going to deactivate you. I'm going to put something on this system that doesn't constantly overwrite working video drivers with broken ones, that doesn't wake my monitors up at night, that doesn't need constant vigilance just to keep from spamming me with ads and unwanted apps.

Newly-minted word, ponder what it might mean to you:

Jengamancy.

All right, I gotta ask.

Are there any fellow Windows users out there who actually use e-mail services other than one of the web-client-based ones? What do you use for a mail client in Windows? I'm presently using FossaMail, a no-longer-developed fork of Thunderbird, and while it works well enough for now, I'm wondering if it's time I moved to something else, but I don't know just what is worth moving to.

And the answer:

"According to Seattle Public Utilities, they will recycle broken bongs regardless of whether there is resin in them. However, Rodd Pemble, recycling manager for Sanitary Services in Bellingham, says bongs are not accepted for curbside pickup."

"His rule of thumb for recycling glass: if it's purchased from a […] store holding food or beverages, it can be recycled. Anything else […] should be thrown away."

Contender for most Seattle question ever asked:

"Can you recycle glass bongs?"

Was pointed to this game that I need to buy and play now, apparently only a few hours long so nice and digestible.

Oddly, the one FPS I've played that doesn't follow this rule is the one that I have the greatest love-hate relationship with, TRON 2.0. The "Suffusion" subroutine is unnecessarily noisy, awkward to use, resource-heavy, and graceless.

Come to think of it, a lot of the gameplay was too, but the story setup was so good and the music was great and everything was so pretty and glowy.... *weeps comically*

Ah well. At least there's the movie—

Shit.

Long as I've been playing FPS games – technically Faceball 3000, but let's say DOOM – I've had an unhealthy fascination with the shotgun-like weapons.

I completely wrecked shop in Duke Nukem 3D netplay. In Action Quake 2 I was known as the Handcannon Whore. I won every mode at every skill level of Unreal Tournament with its sublime Flak Cannon. I helplessly giggle at any emphasis of the word "shotgun" in a videogame context.

Why I Hate Adobe #283:

There I was, morning of the first day of the first Everfree NW (an MLP:FIM fan convention), sitting behind the registration desk despite being the staff designer, having to rebuild the template PDFs used for printing badges. Not a problem, right? I have my laptop, I have all the data files synched to it, I have all the software I need, I was just doing this sort of work on the thing yesterday—

—and Adobe Acrobat won't start because of a glitch in its activation code.

And Adobe Acrobat has spontaneously decided to stop working on my desktop. Thanks Adobe. Thadobe.

(Just a friendly note to save everyone some trouble: Please don't recommend alternatives. I'm plenty aware of them, thanks!)

I've theorised in the past that piracy is less about people wanting to get something for nothing and more about people being tired of getting nothing for something (or, less glibly, getting less than they agreed on or understood to be reasonable.) This sort of crap is why.

Pet peeve:

I really don't like it when a café has their music up, even if I really like the music. It can result in conversing folks unwittingly contribting to the din by trying to be heard over it. Even if the place is near-empty, it's uncomfortable. This is a day and age of practically everyone (who'd be hanging at a café) owning a personal media player (even if just their phone) and earbuds at the very least, so keep the music low and let us do our thing, 'kay?

To all my friends who are doing well right now: Thank you for sharing your joy and good fortune with me! *hugs*

To all my friends who are not doing so well right now: Thank you for letting me share my joy and good fortune with you. *hugs*

I really am thinking of all of you. Even if I don't always have the energy, focus, or present-mindedness to reach out directly, I am truly glad for our friendship.
