a very strange side of the internet

there was some kind of blockchain question in the "hot network questions" section on stackexchange and we clicked it out of morbid curiosity

it's a really, really weird place

the highest voted answer was someone saying in a really stilted professional-email sort of register (not the sort of thing you see from someone learning the language, the sort of thing you see from someone who has never talked in an informal register in their life) "hi, thanks for asking, my name is X, i'm the creator of Y, a thing that does what you're asking about" and then proceeds to just shill Y

several other--highly rated!--answers are other people shilling Y and other things

when we do stuff on stackexchange it's usually on the electrical engineering one for obvious reasons and over there, anyone shilling anything as an answer gets their answer deleted in very short order

re: This makes no sense

@socks it's true though!

re: troubleshooting my garage door opener, long

@trysdyn Ah, that would do it. LED lights cause all sorts of problems like that.

re: This makes no sense

@socks half centaur and half centaur, if you go by left and right halves

re: adult, gamedev

@relee you can make both! though cross-promoting them might be Hard

re: I join/play Neopets

@heatherhorns If you can't make your own heads on pikes, store-bought is fine

Where did the "X 2 electric boogaloo" meme come from anyway

the first thing we saw it in was a pokemon kid's book or something along those lines? is that where it came from??
-F

@Facet oh goodness and then the credits finished pretty much synced with the music finishing, and the next track was the zelda 1 "you got a piece of the triforce" fanfare, just as the end screen came up

Show thread

we watched @Facet play a link's awakening randomizer today, with the game music turned off as she played her own playlist of video game music

literally as the wind fish was fading in after beating the final boss, *her playlist started playing the final boss music from link's awakening*

little bit late there!!!

the Hearth :ms_agender_flag: boosted

I want to live in a world of extreme body polymorphism. I want a world where someone can be a human, or furry, or elvan fae, four legged wolf, giant dragon, a collective of foxes, small box robot on wheels, hive of nanobots, copyright infringement, abstract geometry...

I want a world where any conceivable thing can be considered as a form, to have "personhood", and efforts are made to allow all those types of being to exist relatively in the same culture, to the best of our efforts.

re: I join/play Neopets

@heatherhorns Armold. It's like arnold, but with an m.

the Hearth :ms_agender_flag: boosted

@heatherhorns we must have a zobold in the highest resolution possible
-F

@typhlosion @rey it could be a combination of both, and (back to the idea of a common feature) it's entirely possible that one of the pins that's particularly corroded isn't used by the carts that work reliably (we don't know if there *are* any such pins on the nes cartridge connector, but there could be)
-F

@heatherhorns i hope not too, we can't really control it

thank you for the consideration
-F

@heatherhorns we have fast food for lunch and this post is being Very Bad for our mysophobia :x
-F

@typhlosion @rey ah, that probably *is* a problem with dirty contacts then, and the ethanol wasn't quite enough for it

i dunno if deoxit is good on the sorts of plastics used in the NES but might be worth a look? or just some kind of purpose-made contact cleaner like MG409, but deoxit you can probably get at home depot or something, MG409 you'd have to order
