This isn't to say that slavery, segregation, and antiblackness are not part of Black history, but rather to say that we shouldn't fall into the trap of letting whiteness off the hook by conflating a white supremacist power structure's crimes against Black people with Blackness itself. Don't let whiteness get away with being invisible. Make whiteness, not Blackness, hypervisible and uncomfortable in its association with horrific crimes.

I mean of course, any narrative of Black people's responses to the realities forced upon them should rightfully center Black people, but the instigating events and systems they were responding to? The atrocities? That's on white people and whiteness. It's the whitest history there is.
