@green @lizmonster @Jacel I've spent a few years training all variants of "I'll try" out of my vocabulary because my therapist pointed it out as innately meaningless, not a promise to do anything in particular; I should at least pick a concrete standard to hold myself to. In retrospect I am not sure whether this is a healthy approach or not.

Thoughts on federation
@noelle Federation or de-federation, for any reason or no reason at all, is not innately moral IMO. It can be wise or poor judgment, relative to some intended goal, and it may be an immoral violation of trust between an admin and users. But the answer is always local.
Impersonating someone (I.e. "social identity theft") is the thing that comes to mind for me for "damaging, objectively immoral things an admin can pull." The subject cannot simply walk away.
Thoughts on federation
@noelle Groups of people are free to use computers to communicate among themselves as they please. They may do it individually by hosting their own Mastodon instances and communicate via federation, or they may delegate this task to a person they trust to run an instance for all of them. The actions taken by Mastodon administrators are a matter for admins and users to settle, and different groups will rightly come to different conclusions for themselves.
Any recommendations for an HDMI 2.0x HDCP 2.2 switcher with at least four inputs (five preferred) that reliably performs auto switching? I no longer need audio signal extraction or EDID spoofing, but I do want 4K@60hz full passthrough (including multichannel audio signals, unchanged). I have had very poor luck finding switchers that automatically switch. (my soundbar itself only has 3 ports, which are currently PS4, PC, and a 5-to-1 HDMI 1.4 switcher that does not auto switch reliably.)
Automation, Capitalism, Speculative (---)
@Thaminga @KawaSeadrake I see UBI as the only reasonable way to save capitalism in the face of an economy that doesn't need nearly as many workers as it has, personally.
Automation, Capitalism, Speculative (-)
@KawaSeadrake UBI is necessary in an economy that doesn't have enough need for labor to employ everyone, and I suspect nothing will make it happen right up until it is obviously and horribly necessary.
Might as well make it happen sooner so people have alternatives to pointless make-work jobs sooner, I guess
Automation, Capitalism, Speculative (-)
@KawaSeadrake everyone has considered it, but the technology won't stop just because any one company decides it's dangerous for a labor-dependent economy, so they're in a race to be the one holding the sack of money when the music stops.
I continue to suspect that basic income is the only way out of this.
thought debris for @neonNeptunian, @Oneironott, @KawaSeadrake, @emanate, etc.: a Neptunian room escape game
Having now watched Die Hard for the first time, I want to watch a movie about a group of *entirely reasonable* people who suddenly need a ton of money but don't have any, but also suddenly have a ton of military-grade munitions and few other meaningful resources. How could a non-crazy person do it?
I may be the only person in the world who would want to watch this seriously but I'd enjoy a farce too
And now for massive static electricity buildup accidentally shocking @Jacel in the face when sie tried to kiss me in the forehead. Ow.
It’s kind of weird to look back through my own memories and realize that the majority of the event memories my brain has recorded involve @Jacel. Hir visits always seem recent. I don’t record many event memories generally and it seems the ones I do are heavily biased towards hir. Sie helps me participate in the world.
