@kara_dreamer@witches.town people wanting those things in mastodon, that is. which makes me wave my hands and mumble "but Dreamwidth *has* all that..."

@kara_dreamer@witches.town just watching the federated stream for a while, I saw archiving toots (searchable by date!), a preview function, an audience-filter function, the ability to change userpics/icons, the ability to link to longer entries... XD

I remember at J20 there were all these "what to do if ICE comes" pamphlets being handed out in Spanish but I had to press four different people to get Chinese (w/ traditional characters), Vietnamese, Tagalog, etc. It's like entire ethnic groups and therefore languages aren't even considered to be under threat from ICE (this is wrong and a huge part of why I do the work I do)

@kara_dreamer@witches.town instead of trying to mangle mastodon into something entirely different trying to make it function *like* DW... people could just go use DW. XD

@kara_dreamer@witches.town yeah but it's there! and if more people use it then--it's like here, critics were like "oh nobody will use it lol" and here we are! not as a replacement for mastodon, but it seems like it's still useful for posting longer-form stuff, or stuff that you want to filter the audience for, y'know?

oooh, the pressure is changing, isn't it? my ears suddenly started aching...

istg some of the things people are wishing for on mastodon make me wonder if they're trying to reinvent LiveJournal.

like

you know DreamWidth is still there and not owned by Russians and stuff, right?

@zebratron2084 I kind of lost it at "1.5 lb. chicken nuggets." I don't know why. that one just broke me.

@Oneironott *nod* I'll be keeping an eye on it--if it was just a one-time thing, that's fine. if it's an ongoing thing... not my bag. <3

@Oneironott pretty sure I was just getting an... unflattering first impression of that community, but I'm still going to back off and watch it carefully for a while before jumping in. I pay attention to the "popcorn instinct"--it's usually a pretty good guide. XD

@literorrery yeah, I'm pretty much just using Birdspace for 1. DMs (do DMs work here?? if so howwwww) 2. newsglimpses 3. occasional doses of "I need something to read, OKAY THAT'S ENOUGH".

there's one online space I now visit solely and exclusively when I want to feel schadenfreude. it's a painfully rich vein to mine, so I rarely go there these days. :P

@literorrery there was talk about a Certain Discord Server/Channel/whatever those things are called a few days ago... I can DM you in Birdspace if you really want to go look. XD

oh hey, possibly interesting new social space, let's see what's going on here!
*starts reading*
*immediately has instinctive urge to make popcorn*
*closes screen, backs away slowly*

ooooooooookay then. :D

@KawaSeadrake @typhlosion yah, in the non-furry trans community I peripherally circle, trans men seem to slightly outnumber trans women, and trans enbies are vanishingly rare. pretty much every enby I know is furry, including lots of AFAB enbies (raises hand).
