I remember, just barely, the days of existing on the internet when you could have a rich social life on some random forum and be reasonably confident that even though technically public, niche visibility would shield your words from being exposed to groups who wanted to cause harm.
I want that back.
Public service announcement: ALWAYS lift things from the ground by bending your legs, NEVER by bending your back. Even if the thing isn't heavy.
Squats and deadlifts are two of the typical human body's strongest movements, but your back muscles are still getting used to the fact that we walk on two legs instead of four.
@kara_dreamer@witches.town I'd make it of chain links, and beads/charms would be added/removed to the links themselves. alternately, I might try making the bracelet with lots of pretty little lobster clasps, but I honestly don't know how well that would work out. I'd be intrigued to see your solution! (I used to do a lot of jewelry-stuff)

If you look at software today, through the lens of the history of engineering, it’s certainly engineering of a sort—but it’s the kind of engineering that people without the concept of the arch did. Most software today is very much like an Egyptian pyramid with millions of bricks piled on top of each other, with no structural integrity, but just done by brute force and thousands of slaves.
I RELEASED THE TRAILER FOR MY GAME AAAAAHHHHH
Keep It Together is my game about social anxiety, and a coat full of rats pretending to be human. #gamedev https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uWOXg9I0Ig
@Jacel @mawr @KawaSeadrake ditto aaaaaaaa *flails*
hmm. I should probably Do Something today, but I have no idea what to do, and I'm somewhat averse to the idea of Doing Something just for the sake of having Done A Thing.
on the other hand I do need suet, the chickadees are getting *really* annoyed with me, and it's a nice day for a walk.
so!
* food
* shower
* venture forth for suet
* ???
* $$$$
* happy chickadees
@mawr @typhlosion @literorrery and *wow* that article hits it on the nose, for me. especially when people are upset, or hurt, and trying to figure out what to do about it--it's so damn easy to blame someone, and it's the kind of situation that some people take advantage of instinctively, acting as pointers for the blame. and then mobbing happens and ugh. UGH.
why are people
how do human
@mawr @typhlosion @literorrery ooh, thank you very much! (was outside the meme-joke, is being enlightened on several levels)
ex-relationship crap
@kara_dreamer@witches.town omg so, so much empathy for that situation. constant external reminders bringing it up over and over is just... ugh. what helped me most when things were like that was fire--being angry, literally burning things, and locking any other emotions away in a deep, cold box. it's not a permanent solution, but it helped me get through the worst abrasions until I was in a place where I could start to really heal. *hugs offered*
Discourse
@mawr @typhlosion @literorrery also same? (I don't even know what "Discourse" is, if it's a platform or group or what)
@Jacel WHY WHAT ERGH ????
@mawr oooh, yeah, that makes sense. XD I don't really rank them, but my top 10 list includes those two and also Book of the New Sun, the Jhereg series, the Discworld series (leaning over into SF/F here), and the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms trilogy. there's lots of others I really like, too!
