@miscellanium it's also fairly revealing to think about the variety of uses/meanings when people default to "stupid" and to examine the implications of what a particular culture attributes to intelligence; basically, it comes down to low intelligence being inherently bad and undesirable, and with the sense that a person can choose their intelligence

ignorant still kind of works for me because it connotes some agency, not a reference to intelligence level. but yeah, i am also open to reconsidering that interpretation if other people have a different response to that word.

words/phrasrs I've been using lately to replace "stupid" "dumb" etc:

-unexpected
-silly
-a strange choice
-unreasonable
-a poor decision
-a mistake
-not what i wanted
-wrong

instead of "don't be stupid" I've been trying the more positive "try to make good decisions"

I'm open to feedback/other ideas!

@rotatingskull there are differences, but whether or not someone finds those are benefits depends on personal interests

awoo is a smaller instance, and i find the moderation/cultural expectations more compassionate and intimate than a larger instance like .social has. federation is more carefully considered by the admin team. since it's not the flagship instance, it doesn't get a flood of new people whenever some other group on the internet migrates.

also it's cute and fluffy.

@vahnj it's been really hard for me to train myself out of hurtful habits and language and i don't do it perfectly, but i'm working on it, and i appreciate that other people are working on it! thank you for the gentle reminder and for making a space where this is a valued skill <3
