Hot Take, Politics and Religion Edition

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org And again, I've tried to explain that you're equating "communism" and "planned economy" and I'm not.

Hot Take, Politics and Religion Edition

@zetasyanthis Okay, hold up a sec: what do you think I'm saying when I say "communist"?

Hot Take, Politics and Religion Edition

@zetasyanthis Free Christiana, Denmark, is still going strong. Shinmin, Manchuria, was going fine up until the Japanese invaded from one side and the Chinese from the other after a series of local leaders were assassinated. Can't blame its failure on the political system itself.

Hot Take, Politics and Religion Edition

@zetasyanthis I stand by my assertion. Not every communist is a terrible person, either, and communism is no more inherently doomed to fail than any other political system. The democratic republic is equally open to fail states -- we're living in one now -- but I don't hear people saying "democratic republics are a failure" because of it.

Although a lot of millennials are starting to say that of democratic republics....

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org And yeah, that patronizing non-argument counts.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org Understandable, truly. Salt is real, I get it. But using a microaggression at people who use microaggressions to prove microaggressions are bad doesn't exactly help your case.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org The condescending doesn't become you, really. And Matt Bors addressed your macbooks-and-lattes comment better than I can: thenib.com/mister-gotcha

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org I don't think choice will end up being an issue, but I fully accept I'm envisioning a situation like the modern grocery store wherein the government distributes food in bulk and people just... take what they need. Even today, we make more food than we can eat in this country, but price controls mean we have a hunger problem.

This would be something I'd try to solve on the back end by tracking consumption and billing people who use an excess without cause, instead of charging up front.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org So, I would call that socialism, and it doesn't look too far from my economic aims. Eliminate markets on staple goods and give those away as part of the tax base, and we're golden.

Communism, meanwhile, is just one way to make "the government." It's political, not economic. I know there's connotative baggage because of Marxism-Leninism, but I don't have a shorter word for "nested layers of locally-elected representatives." "Multi-layer mutualism," maybe, but it's not as catchy.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org UBI's absolutely a socialist tool. I'm not a Marxist; Marx would call me a member of the lumpenproletariat for my bohemian attitudes. I'm a lot closer to Kropotkin and Lysander Spooner.

Hot Take, Politics and Religion Edition

If it's wrong to compare every Christian to Robert Tilton, or every atheist to Richard Dawkins, then it's wrong to compare every communist to Stalin.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org Clever gulag reference there, not buying it. Again, you're using one very shitty implementation as a prototypical example, as if I were to think of all Christendom by the example of, say, Robert Tilton or Benny Hinn. There's enough automation, or soon will be, that eliminating the cost requirement of most staple goods and simply paying those who contribute for their time above and beyond UBI should suffice.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org Christiana, Denmark.
Shinmin Collective, Manchuria. You don't need scaling. You need coordination and communication, which can happen emergently and relying on decentralization. The problem isn't scaling; it's engagement. You can't be passive in such a system and have it Just Work.

@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org I think you're conflating "communism" with "planned economies."

Venting about work (3)

@mawr You deserve better treatment than that, and they have done an utter shite job of easing the transition to the new tool chain.

Venting about work (3)

@mawr That, if you'll pardon my foul wind, is some right cuntish antics right there.

Writing

My story, "Support," has been accepted for the inaugural issue of CLAW! On the upside, this means I'll be in print again, and the characters I started for @makyo's Tarot anthology will make a follow-up appearance in another place. On the downside, I can't share it with you yet, and I'm pretty happy with this one. So, if you're interested in semi-realistic transspecies narrative, pick yourself up a copy when it's out and support lesbian furry erotica while you're at it!

Silver, Copper, Tin

Looking at getting at food worker card and filing cottage food paperwork.... gah, my brain is in a weird place right now.

Fake antifa?

@drwho From this guy's video, Youtube recommends "the bloody consequences of gun control", "Antifa Cringe Compilation," and "Socially Awkward Antifa Unmasking Challenge." It also suggests the Alex Jones as a related channel. Six videos, no sign of IGD, CTH, or anything I'd consider close to a real source.

Pass.
