The Ongoing Saga
I have grabbed a Diet Dr Pepper as an "emergency bad-for-me choice" that's less likely to actually cause long-term bodily harm. Still bad, but less bad than more raw sugar (in theory).
The Ongoing Saga
Back-to-back calls from a director at Anthem and a benefits senior manager at the top-level parent company. External review at Anthem triggered. Request for "full list of people who have accessed Keet's case and papedrwork" triggered. Internal "advanced medical support request" from top-level parent triggered.
Minimum timeline for relief: six weeks.
Candy bars snagged for emergency consumption: five.
Candy bars actually consumed: zero (abandoned on coworker's desk)
LB: Hey, @indi, I found Neal's hook.

@Oneironott What I find is that the weed and the alcohol and the sex and the music and the ritual are tools that make getting to the magic easier. Some tools have side effects, but faster results. Some tools are less predictable but more potent. Respect your tools, hone your practice, and remember that the magic is always there even without the tools, if you can get to it. If not, that's what the tools are for.
MtA calls them _foci_ for a reason.
gender dysphoria survey!
@mawr @green @mxsparks @starkatt This is, I think, a fundamental failing of modern society. The presentation of anything qualitative in quantitative terms will eventually be reduced to quantitative evaluation regardless of qualitative analysis, because that's the only way to operate at scale. Some experiences defy quantification, and modern society is at a loss as to how to deal with those experiences.
gender dysphoria survey!
@green @mxsparks @starkatt @mawr Perhaps it's worth framing the discussion of one in which clinicians should act as empowering agents and catalysts for personal growth and discovery. They should be helping people move from uncertainty and fear towards confidence in the seekers path, instead of acting as gatekeepers seeking to bar the way for all but the most devoted.

Politics, Speedrunning, Shitpost
Trump speedran the new WR on National Election (US edition) any%:
* nonstandard inputs that made no sense but didn't violate game constraints.
* underflows to maximize rankings
* damage boosts off of enemy attacks
* i-frame exploitation
* state corruption through Facebook minigame
* looking at his Cabinet and backers, it's clearly tool-assisted.
* Mueller's investigation is the political verification on original hardware.
@Fuego So, what you're saying is that there are multiple avenues for an attacker to exploit the concept of optimization, because optimization represents the system interacting with stuff outside the software's control while reporting to the software that everything is normal. And any gap between what a system does and what it reports it did is a potential vector. And that's how we get Twitch Plays Amazon, or whatever the next TASBot masterpiece is.
@Fuego Wouldn't shock me. Lots of optimizations fall into a general pattern of short-circuiting what a system's been told to do with something else that provides the same output in less time through side effects. Those side effects have predictable impacts on the system that are invisible to the software, and thus can be leveraged to permit operations the software can't prevent.
@Fuego New exploit class?
