I don't feel ready. I never do before flights. This one even more than normal. And yet, I know I'm as prepared as I can be, given everything leading up to it. @mawr and Raow were over last night, and I've left plenty of leftovers. This all weighs on what I want to write while I'm there. I did a novel in three days.

Mountain's out this morning, seeing me off. I'll be home soon, with much to show for my time.

Six o'clock start to the day, half an hour before my alarm went off. My roommate's driving me to the airport. It's early, but I'm awake. Winthrop wanted a coffee, then started sleeping in the back seat; it'll be cold by the time we arrive. He didn't really want coffee. I've promised him a hot cup of tea when we arrive.

Seven days without @ElectricKeet is an eternity. It's not even a baraka; it's just a very long time. Em wanted to listen to Starcadian to start the trip. HE^RT. #tfnyuu

Getting two additional metrics installed from a coworker and some supplementals from another team doing a parallel checkin.
Boss mildly embarrassed I'm here on my day off but asked me if I could help with an Excel bit of madness.
Leaving work now, for RAWR.

It isn't that tech is _interesting_ unto itself. It's that all the things around tech are fascinating in the ways they break down.

Eleven-hour day today.
Going in early tomorrow, on a scheduled vacation day.
Code that worked two days ago is failing.
Team lead doesn't know why.
Coworker promoted to PM wants to know why I haven't started working in my new capacity already.

There's an idea that's been on my mind a lot lately, and I should probably write a whole thing on it, but here's a short summary:

"Grace" is the recognition on the part of one who has been wronged that the violation was unintentional. Not accidental, but not intended. It's an acceptance that the intent of an act wasn't malicious, even if the act itself was harmful. Forgiveness for late payment because something came up is what the "grace period" on your credit card statement means.

How many times did I look at that list of library functions trying to load the x86 version of a library alongside the x64 versions of everything else and not notice?

Well, one fewer than I could have, to be sure, but still....

It's official; I'm being "laterally promoted" to Lead SRE. I'm... cautiously excited about this? It's a new focus, but it's pretty awesome and I'm getting a direct role in defining success metrics and criteria for the company.

It's... yeah, it's like a new form of shop steward. I like that.

I know I'm, like, a month late on the invocation of Aries, and I can't even blame the sidereal calendar, but the seasons are late here in Seattle this year, and the kitchen recovery has just... felt like trying to make progress was impractical while I had this Known Stressor sitting on my chest. That lifted over the weekend. There's one to replace it, yes, but I know that one well and I've managed his like before. He doesn't scare me the way that one did. So the year starts late this time.
