I just ran across a really dumb but hilarious subreddit called "THE_PACK" which is pretty much the concept "da mf sharez0ne" is based on. I expected the usual Reddit bigotry in those posts but was delighted to find this image as the 6th highest upvoted of all time on the subreddit. :D

@zebratron2084 A friend in CA leant me $1,000 and promised a couch to sleep on for a couple of weeks. Having no other options, I agreed. I jammed a radiator in my broken car and got it running well enough to drive across the country. When I got there, the couch I was promised was no longer available. Someone I'd never met welcomed me into their apartment for a couple of weeks before moving out. A friend helped me find work within the month. I got *so* fucking lucky.
@zebratron2084 In 2006, I broke up with my partner in Canada. All my credit cards were maxed, I had $20 in my bank account, and I was living in a country in which I could not legally work. My car was inoperable after hitting a deer a month prior. My parents were fighting over whether to completely disown me or just cut me out of their lives. My friends in Minnesota had no room for me, and I couldn't afford to get there anyway. I was homeless, penniless and stranded in a foreign country.

@Momentrabbit And that's _just_ legal precedent, not law. That ruling can still be challenged by anyone with enough money to litigate. It'd be a very difficult case to win, but it'd be a lot easier than overturning existing law.
I'd say Canada is doing very well, comparatively speaking. ♥️

@Momentrabbit Since I've been alive, Canada has always been among the first countries to pass federal protection for its cultural minorities.
I mean, you folks made same-sex marriage legal in 2005! And not under duress, but rather as a proposed bill that passed with overwhelming support (47-21).
Here in the US, we literally had to file suit against the US government for that right. The supreme court narrowly found very narrowly in favor (5-4), and that was only resolved in 2015. ;~;
