@noiob oh yeah, they do seem to largely have similar ideas!

it's hard to say which i prefer the most. maybe liquid? (that's the thing jekyll uses, and you can pipe output between functions)

{{ user.name | capitalize | prepend: "Hello " }}

most of the stuff i've used recently is jsp with jstl, though jstl just tries to replace the code parts of the templates into tags that are interpreted serverside

<c:forEach var="thing" items="${bean.things}">
${thing.field}
</c:forEach>

@noiob oh, yeah! are there any in particular you like..?

chelsea manning, caps (+++)

OHHHH! i saw that there was news about chelsea manning and got really worried for a second

SHE'S FREE!

when you think of a joke and discover that not only have others already thought about it, its also a meme as of literally yesterday

covid-19

lb: boosting this again because

  • it's pretty important right now
  • it's also pretty great, actually

government forcing employees to play small wind instruments, says whistleblower

@typhlosion i'll take "what's the least direct way to say we want to be evil with technology?" for $800, alex

further RPG natter

@pastelbat that last bit in particular might seem like a little thing, but it also means i probably don't need to do this again!

further RPG natter

@pastelbat i like the action system too! where you get 3 actions in a turn, and different things you can do simply take up "x number of actions"

it really lets you mix and match all of the options available to you instead of dictating that you need to do a certain number of one thing, and a certain amount of another in order to maximize your effectiveness

the contents being on the side of every page is beautiful and makes it extremely easy to navigate the books too

@DogMotif@snouts.online yes, and please make it stop

@monorail saaaame

i mean, i know how to amend the last commit, but anything before that is just always gonna be rebase -i for me

i'm happy how surprisingly user-friendly it is, considering what it's doing--especially if you have a good three-way merge tool set up ^^

it's amazing how i can ramble on for hours about topics that are important to me when i'm trying to explain them to someone in particular

but also how they seem to just evaporate the second i try to write about them proper on a blog or something

thoughts on punishment

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz the last part in particular; any "relentless and holy fury" really fires up the ol empathy anxiety

especially when this justifiable consequence is many, many times worse than anything that was done

thoughts on punishment

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz i don't think it teaches anything

looking at my own morality, i learned exactly none of it from punishment

i think the thing that got me on this train of thought is the idea that a bunch of people can widely agree on the fact that someone else needs to be hurt feels really icky to me

where suddenly causing suffering is justifiable because of a majority rule had dictated it okay in certain circumstances--and then nobody is gonna show mercy after its agreed
