i only recently checked out 3 and there are a fair number of reasons it's good. i don't really see a reason why 2.7 is so popular any more, there's a lot of optimization missing that 3 ended up bringing. that's about all i know though

@LottieVixen good question! the only people i've gotten an idea of how they came to be have invited the people in. it seems common in witchcraft to call spirits to inhabit you and they become a part of you. other than that, i dunno
@LottieVixen i haven't sat down and asked someone about it but the basic gist is the idea that a person can have multiple folks sharing the same body inside them and the can have various overlapping parts of one or be wholly distinct people
it's commonly associated with something called a "headspace" where you can go and meet the folks you share your mind with
that's about the gist of what i know about it. p neat to not ever be alone
