re: SEVERE LUDOMEMETIC BRAIN HAZARD
@KitRedgrave Do it! Even just picking a small subset of moves and scoring patterns and trying to make something vaguely playable out of it could be interesting!
re: SEVERE LUDOMEMETIC BRAIN HAZARD
@KitRedgrave That is exactly correct. :) Pataphysics is, put very basically, a genre of surrealist satire of systems of rules.
Usually it's stuff like big fancy scientific-sounding papers about completely imaginary problems, like how to build a "real" time travel machine or turn a human being into the square root of negative one.
In this case, it's a satire of over-complicated games like contract bridge or mah jongg with a ton of fiddly and hard-to-remember rules -- or worse, monstrosities like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taikyoku_shogi -- and was probably never seriously intended to be played.
Hell, I'd be surprised if anyone but the author's even READ the whole thing. :) Though it might be fun to see someone program a couple of AIs to play it someday...
@Cerulean This show sounds super fun. :D Guess I know what I'll be bingeing next...
SEVERE LUDOMEMETIC BRAIN HAZARD
"Say, Kirsch! Do you happen to have any examples of the application of 'pataphysical science to board gaming?"
"Why yes, yes, I do. Or maybe I don't. Honestly, I've read this four times and I'm still mostly just kind of scared of it. Whatever it is, you probably shouldn't play it."
@anthracite The moral of this story: if you think you're gonna get stuck in Hell, buy a nice set of blinders for your boyfriend.</valis>
@anthracite @Balina i know, i said it for the laffs
@Balina Much the same way that I hope I'm not the only one who pronounces the "cursed" in "cursed image" like "CUR-sed."

I love this kind of crap. Wiki devoted entirely to very large number nomenclature.

"Exxxxxcellent."
@kelseyhusky @Soreth well played!
@kelseyhusky @Soreth That's a good question! I'm getting no support for it in a quick Google hunt, but that is not really strong evidence, and I could very easily see that being a bit of h2g2 canom I missed... Everybody refers to it as a fish, but could VERY easily be misinformation...
I might have to get some ocrs and do some skimming...
@typhlosion It's maddening!</dean_venture>
re: Pol, virus
@Phorm @001zlnv Currently I'm absolutely unafraid of my own (or Peg's) physical health because the mortality rate is so low among otherwise healthy people.
But I'm pretty scared for my parents, especially my already-ailing stepdad, and scared what's going to happen on the sociopolitical level with absolute reality-resistant twits like Trump and Pence in charge.
And I'm scared for humanity in general, because "OK just don't roll under 5 on a d1000" is not all that comforting if DAMN NEAR EVERYBODY has to roll...
@leucrotta I did finally find a decent sushi place down here, and the pho scene is just as good as everybody told me it would be. We also found some _really_ good dive-bar barbeque.
@001zlnv @xinjinmeng @JulieSqveakaroo See above -- it's an unusual crossbreed of Parmesan and Cheddar.
@xinjinmeng @JulieSqveakaroo Valid question. :) It's a somewhat odd Parmesan-Cheddar hybrid, not a blend but something with traits of both. It's surprisingly good, very sharp and crumbly, lots of little tyrosine crystals.
@Aradia Strange but good. Boring in places but a nice, relaxed kind of boring. LOTS of eye candy, including both costumes and floats. And there was a fox wedding float! We got pics AND a medallion throw of it! ^____^
@typhlosion Purples and blues, because I'm partly colorblind and they, as the color "blurple," confound me. :)
