uspol, the obvious, rant, also unkind

if you're that pissed and scared, donate whatever you can to mcconnell's opponent, it's really as simple as that

you (meaning "leftist American in general") keep acting like we have no power whatsoever, ready to concede when we're one point behind, and you have been like this since Bush

the world didn't end then, either, and some of my friends were very clear in telling me that it quite literally would (i still think back constantly to the smug asshole canada liberal ex-friend who INSISTED he had inside information about an impending Iran invasion and it was a sure thing and it was definitely WW3; not to mention the 15 years I spent with an admittedly kind and lovely and brilliant compulsive doomsayer, none of whose Peak Oil BS came to pass, after they insisted for years we'd never see gas prices < $4/gal ever again...)

if this country was really that totally broken, the supreme court wasn't going to save you anyhow. don't mourn -- organize, don't tell me this is a new concept to you, fellow traveler -___-

re: unkind

(that is not a subtoot btw and y'all mourn however you need to -- i just have some reasons for hope, or at least some questions to ask about what the consequences of this could *actually* be, but really don't feel like fighting the stream of doomsaying tonight)

re: US Pol, Very Grim, (---)

@Phorm @anthracite It's futile but sincere and I'm genuinely curious if I can get away with it. If they ban me, it's really no great loss.

dammit this acoustic guitar has a nicer living room than we do

@hystericempress @Daikanu Ooh, y'all got a recipe for that stuff? 😻

movies, shameless self-pandering, tropes

Peg and I were talking about the effect of cell phones on horror movie tropes and I thought of something I'd like to see:

Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, where Freddy is NOT omnipotent or unbeatable, the kids are a bunch of fantasy-prone queer nerds who immediately deepdive into lucid dreaming and identity play, and they KICK THE SHIT OUT OF HIM.

HOW 1990'S TELEVISION TAUGHT US VERY SMART PEOPLE WOULD TALK:

"Your postulate rests upon a faulty supposition. I surmise you will inevitably concur with the words of Cicero: 'Nemo enim fere saltat sobrius, nisi forte insanit.' Apropos, would't you say?"

HOW NUMEROUS VERY SMART FRIENDS OF MINE ACTUALLY TALK IN 2020:

ugh six hours oncall fml what is adulting even, w/e i mean fuck capitalism in the ear, i want to be a smol puppybean and get pettins bark bark bork aroo gnite friends 🐺🌈

re: kitty (+)

Yup. Not ten minutes with it and she has solved its mysteries. Peggy's pretty sure Shadow's figured out the red dot is coming from Peggy's hand.

I'm sure glad she's on our side.

kitty (+)

I don't have faith in much these days.

But if I believed one cat on earth could actually _catch_ that little red dot someday...

It would be Shadow.

re: ANTI-FA VIRTUAL BLOCK PARTY! CW: USpol Writing prompt

@kelseyhusky I'll run the Food Not Bombs stand, since as I learned in the WTO protests, their sandwich spread is paradoxically the bomb.

@anthracite option says she's taking the credit for this, because it was obviously the result of the jedi scout training she's been giving you recently

re: Work frustration of the now

@Phorm BLARGH, that sounds frustrating. I'm gonna be without my work laptop for a week or so myself, but mine was basically just the World's Largest Timeclock Punchcard to start with so I won't really miss it much.

It reminds me of when Peg used to work for the Boston Museum of Science doing Flash animation, and whenever she encountered an IT policy she didn't like, she just... kinda strolled around it, got what she needed with her own skills, and obtained forgiveness instead of permission.

We were mostly reliant on that household income at the time, so I was SO TORN between "dammit, Peg, be careful" and "YOU ARE MY ETERNAL HERO O__O ".
