re: music, mood, feels, blood diamonds, racism, sincere phonies
@fineursine He did apparently say he "wouldn't have done it" if he'd known it was offensive, but the full quote... well, just sounds like your classic Hollywood "sorry you chose to be offended, can we not all be reasonable together?" non-apology.
re: music, mood, feels, blood diamonds, racism, sincere phonies
@fineursine Looked it up on wiki. The really interesting thing is even THEN, the producer Richard Shepherd pushed for proper representation! They KNEW that was a net social good and basic damn respect! But yup, Blake Edwards just liked Mickey Rooney's performance too much and insisted.
re: music, mood, feels, blood diamonds, racism, sincere phonies
@fineursine I faintly remember reading that basically EVERYBODY advised Blake Edwards it was not a good idea. Or something similar that indicated NOPE, YUP, it was definitely seen as offensive then too. Nothing can justify it, not even values drift. D: The only consolation is that pretty much everybody involved deeply regretted it.
music, mood, feels, blood diamonds, racism, sincere phonies
My day had been emotionally complicated enough without getting Moon River-bombed by a Tiffany's jewelry ad. Of all the damn people who don't have the right to make me cry.
I have no resistance to that song. None. At least it wasn't the Kid Koala version. I would not even be able to type yet by now. You would have had to talk amongst yourselves. Because of the verklempt.
It's a pity the film it's from has fifteen minutes of VIRULENT YELLOWFACE RACISM in it, like the proverbial teaspoon of sewage in a barrel of champagne.
re: earnest young queer person followup (+++)
Wow. That went REMARKABLY well, actually. I've had all my lost energy refunded with high interest and actually have a spark of faith in humanity again. Well, in queer-ass furries anyhow. <3
@zx3 Sympathies. My THC tolerance post-Ida trauma has rocketed straight past "Willie Nelson" into Snoop Dogg territory. I can't tell you the last dream I've remembered due to flattened REM. D:
@Leucrotta *sits on inner pedant because she knows you already know damn well what "shin" means in Japanese* :D <3

re: oh no gender
@mawr And yeah, plus we're all kinda... unfactorable. :) Breaking us down into convenient easy pieces, generalizing about us, just... doesn't work. And I suspect, yeah, most human beings are like that.
re: oh no gender
@mawr Isn't it beautiful? I am just short of declaring the Numberphile YT channel to be my personal religion. n.n;
re: oh no gender
@mawr Those are quality artisanal threes, Mawr, so I really think the problem, no offense, lies in plush dentition. You gotta get yourself some HARD teeth one of these days, especially if you're gonna try to factor things with them. <3
re: oh no gender
@mawr Are you SURE you can eat a large prime number in one sitting, Mawr? Take small bites, at least, and chew the sixes carefully. I don't want you choking on the pokey bit.
(CONTEXT: I recently declared my gender to be "357,686,312,646,216,567,629,137" on Birdsite because it's got an amazing property: you can take any number of digits off the front and it's STILL PRIME. It... kinda felt metaphorical somehow, because no matter how many transformations I go through I'm still basically the same jerkass queerass cat. =n.n;= )
re: media, trivia, silly, nostalgia, challenge
@Leucrotta @zx3 No, no, this was really Godlike difficulty level. It's a SUPER obscure Electric Company sketch-- the Short Circus specifically-- and that's the only line that stuck with me. There was very little reasonable expectation that anyone would get this. I have no clue why it stuck in my own head. I couldn't tell you a damn thing about the context.
re: media, trivia, silly, nostalgia, challenge
@zx3 Yeah, I tipped my hand a little too much there. :D
