This street sign is, apparently, adjacent to the place where Scrabble was invented. Neat. But there was a Triple Word Score right up on 38th they could have picked up just as easy, yanno...
(Sadly the sign was unofficial and is currently MIA, but there are official plans to restore it: https://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/16/nyregion/sign-in-queens-marking-birthplace-of-scrabble-is-coming-back.html )
with apologies to John, Paul, George, and Ringo
Sleepy Sadie, where did you nap?
Would you feel better in my lap? (2x)
Sleepy Sadie, ooh, where did you nap?
Sleepy Sadie, you are so cute
Gonna reach down and pet your snoot (2x)
Sleepy Sadie, you're so cute
One snowy day when Sig was waiting for a snuggle
She came along and curled up and said "mew"
Sleepy Sadie, the greatest 'cause she's a cat!
@LeDiva style goals, i already meet 1/5 criteria, could be 3/5 by end of next year
@zx3 @kelseyhusky @Soreth Here's to the Past and Future Inn, Illuminati University, and what the hell, the goddamned Dionysian Scream where this mess all started. *downs three shots with Martian ferocity and fast-pitches all three glasses into the fireplace*
@Momentrabbit Yeah. *squeeze* I ponder what went wrong with all that every day. It feels these days like the very structure of social media is working against us.
I won't lie to you. I wouldn't go back and undo a thing, but I don't think I'd try to start something like it ever again, either. I've come out the other end knowing things about the ways people get along (and don't) that just can't be undone.
No more Callahan's Saloon stuff for me. Or at least, next time round, I'm just a patron.😜
Remember when we'd bounce ideas off each other and follow where they went, world-building and character-designing and history-editing and skill-forging, bad puns and worse innuendo and obscure media references and little bursts of things one of us was excited to share with the other because now those facts could live in two heads instead of just the one...
I miss that. I still miss that, and I still miss you.
I know. It's okay. Time's past.
I enjoyed those times with you. Thank you for them.
re: The Struggle Is Real
@mawr Ah, yes. Peg and I refer to them as "The Voice of Binky." Binky has rarely steered us wrong. :D
re: mood (--)
@Austin_Dern *hugs* Thanks, hun.
I link to a lot of music, and I think I've ever linked to this before, but it's kind of an important song, and I kinda *do* want us all to love ourselves. And it's Reggie, FFS!
re: My house almost burned down yesterday!
@mawr Eek. :O So glad you're all ok!
re: SU cold take
@inmysocks I mean, right?
It was a good show. Almost everything was resolved. Let Lion take a victory lap. 😻
Corgis, don't try this at home. This is a professional stunt corgi (as well as a hypothetical spherical, massless point-corgi).
re: magic realist tiger moment; mood (-)
@JulieSqveakaroo So what you're saying is that the cure to my depression is to pouncemurder a piano for five minutes?
You know, that doesn't sound half bad.
magic realist tiger moment; mood (-)
*hides in the back of the closet and hwarfs up a gigantic hairball that proves, on closer inspection, to be a wad of chewed-up fortune-cookie strips that all have the word "REGRET" printed on them*
*sighs and noses listlessly at chewtoys for the rest of the evening, maybe stress-binges on the scraps of last night's antelope, before settling on a slightly too-small box to hide in and sulk*
Since it still seems to be kinda obscure, I'll pass around a little love for it: The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell on Netflix is really cute.
It's basically just a craft and cooking show with goth Muppets and a "creepycute" theme, but they're really good Muppets and actually quite impressive craft projects. The arrogant mummified cat is satisfyingly arrogant and the skanky raccoon is quite exceptionally skanky. 8/10
ps you will NEVER actually do any of these crafts
