kitty alert! (++)
I took the box Sugarfoot had curled up in and carried it to the kitchen with her still in. I think I completely destroyed all her previous conceptions of 3-dimensional topology in the process. From the expression on her face, I think it was like finding a warp zone.
This only just deserts for her, since her ability to pop into the apartment out of nowhere had already confounded my concepts of *4*-dimensional topology.
@spacewastrel@yiff.life I thought about it some more, and I actually have four or five "I've lost everything" moments in my life. The times immediately after them were some of the worst of my life, but... like I said, here I am.
So, yeah, here I am. Just keep talking to us and we can collectively get you through this. Everything looks better after a couple of days. Trust in the resilience of your brain to deal with shock, give yourself time to mourn and reel, and then we'll figure out the next step.*hug*
re: If you were a kid getting New York City TV in the early 80s you'll understand
@Austin_Dern Surprising number of Internet resources on it, too!
re: If you were a kid getting New York City TV in the early 80s you'll understand
@Austin_Dern OH MY GOD
Youngstown station for us, Channel 33, WYTV, and the show was called "33 POW."
I am, as always, happy to be That One Person for my friends, cousin coati. <3
@joshua omg next time i think i might subject peg to the alphabet song from forbidden zone >:D
@joshua Peg and I seem to be developing a running joke of washing our hands to the Ramones together. :)
re: covid-19, question
@joshua Honest answer: nobody freakin' knows. D:
There have been scary recent cases of people in Wuhan who had previously covered from COVID but are now testing positive again.
However, it's probably not reason to panic *yet*. Most virologists seem to think it would be REALLY weird for a coronavirus's immunity to wear off that fast, so the leading theory is that it's some kind of flaw in the test accuracy.
They haven't ruled it out completely, but it would apparently be REALLY weird and scary if you could get it again in less than - I'm spitballing from memory here - like two years or longer.
@hystericempress The public are shocked.
@Leucrotta Believe me, if the finances and the not-dying both work out okay, the FIRST thing I'm doing when it's safe to come out again is visit Seattle...
re: mh (---), covid-related, request for a morale officer
@Leucrotta Nope, not offended at all, just wanted to be pedantic about exactly the etymological point you just made. :D
re: mh (---), covid-related, request for a morale officer
@joshua That's the story of my work life these days. I dunno if you caught that SCP-in-all-but-name I found on Google Streetview, but... I've seen some shit. :D
re: mh (---), covid-related, request for a morale officer
@JulieSqveakaroo Actually, Junji Ito fate sounds kinda cool...
re: mh (---), covid-related, request for a morale officer
@Austin_Dern Oh, um, I've seen Psychedelic Pink. *blush* It was... influential when I was a kid. You can probably fill in the rest of the sordid details. n.n;
re: mh (---), covid-related, request for a morale officer
@Aradia I know, I'm so looking forward to it! I also found out S2 of What We Do In The Shadows is coming along just a few days later! ^_____^
mh (---), covid-related, request for a morale officer
ok yeah, i started thinking about the logistics of one of us trying to take care of the other in this tiny, underequipped apartment with no washing machines, if one of us caught the virus
and now between that and the dollar figures on that insurance statement, i am officially freaked out and not dealing -- i should still be working, because now I NEED to get to 40 hrs for the week, but i've stopped cold
anyone got anything left? an interesting bit of ephemera? a funny youtube link? a perverse fantasy? it's all welcome at this point, because i am on the verge of low-grade losing it
@Leucrotta I have so many pedantic things to say but I'm gonna keep my mouth shut 'cause they're all silly dago trivia you probably already know. :D
re: finance, bureaucracy, ph, mh, charity, guilt (--)
(Update: Don't give up hope, it looks like while damn near nothing was _technically_ covered, I get an... essentially random-looking... "member discount" for each service? So it's all a matter of whether any of that whatsoever ends up applying to my pending $800 in lab fees. There's a *chance* that roughly half of it will disappear...)
finance, bureaucracy, ph, mh, charity, guilt (--)
Looks like my insurance is dicking me over for about $1200 over a technicality about whether my PCP is in the right "service tier," something that was absolutely not made clear in any of their materials.
I'll be fine, but it means I'll probably have to spend my stimulus payment -- when and if it ever comes -- on medical expenses instead of just fanning it straight to charity, and I apologize to anyone who was hoping to get a piece of that.
I'll still be doing my best to tighten up my belt and work full 40-hour weeks, so I might still be in good shape to offer some help. It's just going to take longer than I was hoping...
