Remember folks, if you abandon Twitter, Facebook or Google, it's not a boycott, it's a STRIKE.
Because you're the [unpaid] workers that earn them billions of dollars in capital.
When you don't post, they don't get the benefit of your labour. And when you don't use, they lose money.
Social Media STRIKE days should be a thing.
No one needs to starve. No one needs to freeze. No one needs to die. There is enough for everyone. More empty homes than all the people without them, more food than grocers can even sell. The labor and the materials to end scarcity exist now. It is not a far-off dream. We can end scarcity in this life.

Some folks on birdsite are tagging our project account in tweets like "hey jack twitter should copy this thing mastodon does". The idea that this is merely about features is short-sighted. Twitter will never, ever, ever be your friend. They are the shareholders' friend, not yours. No feature will let you see what their engineers are working on, what's under the hood. No feature will fix their headquarters in the US following and enforcing US laws and customs worldwide.

okay so I know we're all really hype about virginia
but: just because they wear blue doesn't mean they're your friend. hold ALL politicians accountable for their actions, and watch them with scrutiny.
don't let your guard down just because the [identity] candidate won, y'all. remember, this is a government both FOR and BY the people. it's our job as citizens to keep our politicians as honest as we can.
Post-Halloween Frankenstein discussion
It's after Halloween and so naturally I bump into critically misreadings of Frankenstein by incredible sums of people who frankly should know better.
Frankenstein's monster isn't ugly, he's -uncanny-. He was built to be beautiful, powerful, and man's equal if not his superior. As an allegory, the book describes that the central scientific fear is the creation of subjects more capable than their superiors. Those subjects aren't -necessarily- artificial.
Computers are magic.
No, really. There's a crystal at the heart of it doing all the computation, with some support crystals sending power to it and handling some data for it, and a timing crystal keeping everything working in sync. There's countless small liquid crystals acting as a display, changing colors in sync to form images.
@ElectricKeet "Rollback!"
I know you lot will assure me that there's no need to apologise for this, but here's a disclaimer:
Sometimes I post before I get a chance to catch up on my timeline. I always feel a little guilty about it, but I do my best to keep up and at least toss favourites here and there to let folks know I'm still reading.
Thanks for understanding. 😺
