surely there are better ways to advocate for queer liberation than peddling biological essentialism (e.g. "we were born this way!"). this type of argument seems to imply "we can't help that we're like this, so leave us alone" as if it would be acceptable to deny us our humanity if it WAS a choice

Every safe space is tuned for specific people. Some people's safety is explicitly unsafe for others. That doesn't mean your safety, desires, or needs are inherently bad, but it DOES mean you need to consider your audience and platform.

Is "carbon-based organic" an identity?
Is "human" an identity?

If these are, then we must allow for people who possess either, neither, or both in our dialogues. Whether or not they are capable of being the things with which they identify, we must accept that they exist and are part of our worldview.
If these are not, then aren't we tacitly asserting that self-aware existences outside of these are not possible, or at least, not worthy of consideration as people?
