re: Phone battery question

@jessmahler @Qwyrdo The full drain and recharge doesn't really affect the battery itself as much as the circuitry in the device that's used to track the battery's state of charge; if it gets desynchronized from the battery's actual state of charge, it can get a little confused. Lithium-ion batteries (all batteries, actually) have a flattish portion in the middle of their discharge curve where just measuring the voltage isn't really a good way to determine current state of charge, so instead it does what's called coulomb counting, where you just count how much charge is consumed from the battery. This can get out of sync from errors accumulating over time, and cause the device to think the battery is more full than it actually is.

There's no risk of this leading to damage to the battery, as it's very easy to tell when the battery is near 100% or near 0% and cut off charging/discharging accordingly simply by measuring the battery voltage; it's just in the middle of the discharge curve, between 75% and 25% or so, where it can get confused and prematurely turn off or something

re: Phone battery question

@jessmahler @Qwyrdo The electrons had better stop flowing when the battery hits 100%!! one of the big dangers of lithium ion batteries is that you *absolutely need* to stop all charging current when the battery is fully charged or you run the risk of the battery literally exploding or at least bursting into flames. All properly designed lithium-ion charger circuitry (which, note, is in the *device*, not in the power supply that plugs into the wall that people frequently call a "charger"; it's not a charger, it's just a power supply) will provide this cutoff, so it's not something you need to worry about. You're free to leave your phone plugged in as long as you like.

re: Phone battery question

@Qwyrdo Speaking as an electrical engineer who's done some (limited, non-publishable) research on lithium-ion battery aging... It's Complicated™ but generally yes, not charging all the way to whatever your device calls 100% would improve the battery's longevity. It may also help to never discharge below a certain amount too, but I'm less sure of that.

re: romhacking, Oracle of Ages spoilers I guess lmao

@gardevoir @Goldkin Considering that Kafei is one of the few characters in MM without an OoT counterpart, I wonder if Ralph could be his real-world counterpart.

re: pokemon bdsp easter egg (snowpoint city)

@LexYeen This happens in the original DPPt too, unless they did something different for the remake.

@hi_cial Whatever feels right to you is the way to go, in general!

re: big spoilers for ys 8 re: ys memories of celceta

@fluxom_alt yeah i'll instead assume that for some reason gruda thinks it's entirely normal and expected that dinosaurs will suddenly appear everywhere in the near future
-F

big spoilers for ys 8 re: ys memories of celceta

@fluxom_alt maybe memories of celceta takes place in the recreated universe where eternia never existed?
-F

when was reality alitied for the first time anyway? and why did it get dealitied?
-F

@gardevoir i'm sure this is a joke but i am not getting it at all

re: Zeta's 2021-2022 hospital journey (MH, sui, etc)

@zetasyanthis i hope things can improve for you, then. I like you and want you to feel good

i understand the anxiety though. it can be a lot

re: Zeta's 2021-2022 hospital journey (MH, sui, etc)

@zetasyanthis i'm not really entirely sure what's going on but i hope everything goes well for you

re: Weird vore horny, second person

@sharkNserg Probably amazing, if you can get past the layers of burnout and depression

@noiob @pup_hime okay but i'm imagining lettuce somehow being made less dense or lower-pressure
-F

I guess they could have included the legend of zelda game watch (not to be confused with the zelda game & watch) but I'm not particularly torn up over that not being included

@pup_hime rarefied lettuce??? what does that mean exactly

re: violence mention, in a movie

@lioness probably--as the prequels show, George Lucas is not good at character writing, much more focus on worldbuilding and large-scale stuff
-F

oh yeah, and the actual original zelda game & watch would have required a second screen

the Hearth :ms_agender_flag: boosted

i get why they put the games they did on the zelda game & watch* but it would have been nice to have the oracle games on there. those are the best handheld ones hands down

*why: alttp would have needed more buttons, oracle of ages and seasons would have required licensing from capcom, minish cap would have required more buttons and licensing from capcom, and any other game would have needed far more processing power
