To follow: Awoo now seems to have a separate "bookmark" function to "favourite", which I think is indictive of this shift in mentality about how favourites are treated.
Never mind the murmurs of The Birdsite implementing its own bookmark feature, because likes are now engagement/promotion tools.

I feel like I'm pretty "old fashioned" about likes/favs on social networks, as I treat them like "good posts I'm bookmarking for later review". I treat network post faving like I do art site faving - it's something special.
By comparison, it feels like a lot of other people fav almost *everything*, encouraged by things like Youtube treating likes more like a meaningless quality meter for the creator, rather than an archive of high-quality content for the viewer.
Slowly, but surely, I'll stop checking Twitter.
Wistful Cyberpunk Future Fantasising
In the grand transhumanist future after the death of capitalism and corporate culture, when everyone is able to alter their bodies and minds as they wish, the term "human" will no longer be that useful.
However for some, even "person" might not really be what they want to be. That doesn't really leave much room for terminology to refer to "people", huh.
I guess one could be defined as "an intelligence", that might work...

Idle thought:
Cyberpunk narratives that paint body-modification as a negative thing because of "loss of humanity", are subtly transphobic because they associate essence with the physical body. That to modify the body is to negatively modify the mind.
It also presumes that to become less human is to also become less empathetic, whereas a person should be allowed to be non-human, or maybe even not a "person", without losing empathy and sapience.

when you wake you have a Pepsi craving. weird, since you've never had soda before in your life
at work you start noticing stuff out of the corner of your cybereyes: familiar billboards, vending machines, friends' actual drinks - all Pepsi-branded now, even things Pepsi would never sell
that evening you can barely comprehend your fav news podcast; the feed's near crowded out by intrusive thoughts about that fucking soda
but you do catch one line about "viral marketing"
