@zebratron2084 *flutters a nona dolorosa sigb at you* Aaaah no you talked about breaking taboos, that caused me thoughtpain, I'm going to go complain and get soothing drugs from my famulus....
Hell, I always wanted to join the Raging Apostles. :-D
Game design thinking
@vahnj There was a neat mechanic in an explorative story game I played recently. Tacoma. You could literally play it as an idle game if you want. The only thing the game actually /requires/ you do to is go to a place, put a thing in the wall, and wait 30 minutes or so while a progress bar fills.
However, every area has places to explore and recordings of people you can use to figure out what happened to the station. Enabled by waiting. :-)
@literorrery So, a Melzucken?

star trek: hey, the Prime Directive is don't meddle with uncontacted civilizations, except when we break that for convenience.
the Culture: yeah, we have a division for that, but we also have a division who just infiltrates less-advanced civilization groups and keeps them from destroying themselves if need be. we meddle in pretty much everything.

star trek: We're not a military, but a peaceful exploration force.
the Culture: We really really really don't like war, and not just because we'll wipe you out if we fight you, because our technology is actually just that good.
But no seriously, we don't like war. Stop doing war. Just stop it.

star trek: sentient AI is weird and rare and hey look, this one wants to be human, isn't that adorable? Let's adopt him!
the Culture: AI actually pretty much run most things, and it's cool. Some of them are a bit insane, and most of them are completely out of our understanding, but it's cool. We have a good thing going.

Riffing on @LexYeen 's trek/also-trek posting last night:
star trek: let's name our ships noble and good things. Enterprise. Voyager. Discovery. Stargazer.
the Culture: All our ships name themselves. So we get: Funny, It Worked Last Time. The Precise Nature Of The Catastophe. Stood Far Back When The Gravitas Was Handed Out. A Momentary Lapse Of Sanity.
@LexYeen Ah geez, I didn't even remember that part. :-D
@mawr But also allow yourself to be yourself. :-)
@LexYeen
Hey, at least in the paperback novel I read where they bring Scotty back (again), they then give an excuse to not have to explore the literally hundreds of thousands of planets' worth of space...
By having the sphere start moving towards its sun, which then burns through the world causing unnecessary destruction, only to have huge tractor beams lock onto the star, pull it back inside the sphere, and the entire thing take off at warp speed.
Okay, so it's not a /simple/ excuse.
@LexYeen Damn, I don't recall that molecule. From newer shows?
@LexYeen
star trek: the borg are scary merciless assimilation machines that can't really be stopped because they're so decentralized
Also star trek: except the borg queen who is a sexy lady borg with a ship whose curves go on forever all the way back through time, and if you take her out whoops you take the whole local collective out
@green @emanate @leafnoodle I do get those comments too, yeah! :-)
@zebratron2084 Passed this on to a wah I know, who is gonna pass it to some they know who are better qualified.
Got an actual job listing link? :-)
@zebratron2084 Damn, that sounds like fun too!
And possibly easy if, say, you've been stashing links like that away already.
My favorite things found when doing the maps thing: a solar furnace power plant.
And a series of roads in a countryside that were half-vanished, along with a falling-apart set of stands. With some research I figured out that it was the site of a Grand Prix in the late 80s. :-D
@leafnoodle @green I mostly just get the odd stares for having shockingly unnatural orange hair.
GRS-related, snark
@KawaSeadrake I would also recommend not going it alone, that time. :-)
Identity; Syncosms
Notably, during that initial dance, I was feeling very much Lai at the time. And I remembered something: even when Lai was in Downwarp, his lab was behind a nightclub.
Why wouldn't this new Lai, now Neptunian, want to be a DJ and run a club?
So I was Lai as well during the Bandaza dance. And that's why this club is a pleasant merge between Downwarp and Neptunian aesthetics.
