is there a word for things that are named after people who would be unpleased to be associated with the thing in later days?
for example, Sylvester Graham and graham crackers ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_cracker )
the dear reverend graham would abhor the s'more that depends on the crackers named in his sake
remember that exam i was freaking out about months ago
i ended up getting a 84%. which got regraded to a 89%.
the mean was 63%.
i was in the _top ten grades_. and i thought i fucking failed.
don't beat yourself up when you thought you did a bad job. even if you didn't get the grade you wanted, it's rarely as bad as you'll build it up to in your mind. this was a happy case, but it's worked out badly for me other times, and i always imagine way worse than what actually happens.
@er1n reads as strongly agree to me

@zebratron2084 *nosetouch* neep neep. <3
Oh, before I forget:
Anybody out there REALLY fluent in Chinese (mostly written) and need a job?
My bosses are hiring. It's basically the same geographical work I do (i.e. really cushy if you're good at lateral thinking), but in Chinese. That and basic web literacy are the main requirements, though knowing a bit about global culture sure doesn't hurt.
Let me know if this interests anybody!
@anthracite oh hey I bet I know that unicorn, SAY HI FOR ME
@Ironraptor oh, Fox News. ffffft the MOON is teaching kids "leftist propaganda" because HURFBLURFSCIENSE. ugh.
@ThreeOhFour @vahnj oh jeez, I love most of the Ghibli films! if I had to pick a favorite it'd be Spirited Away because dragon obviously, but after that it's a tossup between Nausicaa, Kiki's Delivery Service, Laputa/Castle in the Sky (although for some reason they cut out the trumpet playing in the Disney dub, which is ridiculous because that part is beautiful and makes me cry), and one that I've only seen once but need to watch a lot more, Whisper of the Heart, a love story about writing.
@Ironraptor ... what did she think was the *problem*?? o___O
@emanate @leafnoodle I hope you get the occasional random positive comment! I think your hair looks fantastic. and it's always a nice surprise, about... oh, once or maybe twice a month, when a complete stranger says "oh wow, I love your hair!" :D
@Azure oh wow, that sounds *fantastic*! I've been wishing my hair would start going grey/white for years, it'd make it much easier to dye green, but I'm taking after my maternal family and probably won't start greying for another decade or so. ;]
@mawr *nod* true! it's just the first "ambiguously maybe not-positive" response I've gotten, in all these years. it may have just been phrased awkwardly, or somebody having their world view expanded. :)
oh, heh, I just remembered--while I was at the store I think I got my first attempted green-hair dis, from an older shopper.
them: your hair is very... striking!
me: thank you!
them: did you--intend for it to be that color?
me: oh, yes--although it's faded out a bit, I need to darken the green up some.
them: oh... oookay...
me: thanks! /cheery wave /wanders away
it didn't occur to me until afterwards that they were possibly trying to be rude/disapproving. XD
I'm absolutely fucked with bills this month and will be til next semester most likely. I'm swamped with classwork and I can't donate plasma. If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it. I'm probably going to have a gofundme set up soon by my friends, but I need to get at least my phone, power, and internet bills paid in the meantime so I can try to set something up as far as a steady non-loan source of income. Please RT even if you can't help, I appreciate it a lot.
