on the gripping hand, changing your species/form is thought of akin to being a spiritual transformation, not something to be undertaken lightly. there's species-specific reasons for this that don't apply to non-Johmarik forms, but holdovers from this are part of why Johmarik are a bit squirrley about changing into other species, even for research/diplomacy purposes.

otoh it's considered rather rude to change your basic coloration/patterns quickly, or too often, as it can make it difficult for other people to recognize you. it's possible, and some do, but it's seen as a bit gauche.

oh. just realized a thing about Where I Come From: changing genders there is fast, easy, and complete, and they aren't sexually dimorphic; it's impossible to tell just by looking what gender a Johmarik might be, which is part of why it's considered incredibly rude to assume someone's gender or to ask. if they want you to know they'll tell you.

@rachel super, thanks! and I bet you'll get others wanting that form too, I suspect I'm not the only one stuck in a human body who misses being that particular species. ;)

can I include picture references in sec. 2.7? and what's the expected turnaround on this process?

@rachel I doubt you're from my homeworld, though you may have had contact with them. if so, can I request a Johmarik form from that world? if not, can I request a custom form as close to that one as possible?

@kara_dreamer@witches.town huh, I'd never heard of it. the water I drink is straight from the tap (well, and fridge-chilled), since I'm lucky enough to be in an area where tap water doesn't taste terrible (and is safe to drink without boiling/filtering).

@kara_dreamer@witches.town I already keep a qt-sized bottle of water on my desk at all times--have 2 of them, one's in the fridge while the other's on my desk, as soon as the one on my desk is empty I refill it and trade it for the cold one. today I've gone through 3 of them. so far. not including the water (and juice, and coffee) I had while out volunteering. I am SO HYDRATED I feel like a sponge. o____o
