Or were you just more interested in remotely passing judgment? C'mon, P.Z., you're better than this. Investigate, be curious, admit personal discomfort if you wish, but please don't frame other people's consentual kinks as problematic.

@CoronaCoreanici This isn't to say I'm wholly immune, and it's actually not really that _fun_ being like this. I kinda don't like being the killjoy at movies. I just tend to get a lot less out of stuff I don't produce myself because I have a hard time overlooking what look like holes to me. This then compounds itself because I've learned that discussing the sources of my discomfort runs a strong risk of ruining other people's enjoyment. xvx

@CoronaCoreanici I've put enough points into it that the emotional impact of most mass media is lost to me because the internal inconsistencies and external messaging -- where the media directly addresses the audience, not itself -- negatively impacts my ability to stay emotionally engaged. I end up interrogating the creators, not the creation.

@CoronaCoreanici I put all my "secret and dangerous knowledge" points into reading the subtextual and metatextual cues of social and commercial interactions.

@LindsayLaNoire@mastodon.art To me, the "goal" of a story is to illustrate a change in a character. If I can highlight multiple changes, bonus. If I can tie that change into a theme, beautiful. If I can connect the changes to a persistent metaphor -- a motif -- that's the motherlode.

@gulfie I use them when talking about how I as an autistic person interact with the world and the ways in which I have to deviate from my normal routine to accommodate assumptions baked into societal norms.

@LindsayLaNoire@mastodon.art Depends on the story. Sometimes there's one moral proposition and every character has an individual reaction to it. Sometimes there's a common behavior and every character has a different moral dilemma that they're addressing with it. Also, I don't always _start_ with the dilemma in there. Usually I find it about two-thirds of the way through what I'm writing.
