@thefishcrow You're making sense just fine, and I think you're right. It's just trying to figure out how to strike that balance that's hard, because it's going to be different for everyone and there is a risk that someone is going to be hurt no matter what I choose not to cut-tag, and if I have to hide everything, in the long run the person who'll be hurt by that answer is me.

@thefishcrow Mind you, I'm not saying "take the content warnings off of everything" is any better an answer. I benefit from them myself so I at least know what I'm about to unleash on myself. I'm just wondering how we drive the Overton window on some subjects when the norm is to put everything that _might_ be upsetting behind CWs and people are free to completely check out of hard conversations indefinitely. I don't know what the answer is. I don't know that there _is_ "an answer."

@thefishcrow Thing is, I think this applies to all kinds of subjects beyond sex and drugs, too. I think there's a significant percentage of people who want, for instance, to renormalize political content because refusal to engage with it is how we ended up in this liberal hellhole in the first place. There will forever be tug-of-war between those who want topics cordoned off for mental health and those who demand engagement because they see an urgent need for broad participation.

Whenever I want to write about sex or drugs, I'm constantly tugged between two opposing goals: 1) I want to make people comfortable. 2) I want to actively work towards reducing the stigma around these topics. I understand and respect the idea that some people may be upest by these subjects, but at the same time, I don't think it's possible to renormalize what is "socially acceptable" without making people uncomfortable in the interval between stigma and destigmatized.

CWs don't fix everything.

@gaditb Retired: Cross posters subtooting about instance discourse in the federated timeline with insufficient reference to what they're talking about.

@rdh It does tell us how popular emacs is as a coding platform, at lesat.

@gaditb Inspired: Cropposters politely and with full CWs domming people in the federated timeline with orders to hydrate, get meds if people need them, take physical and mental inventory every few hours, and get a nap if folks feel tired.

@eribloodlust I'm trying to kick the habit, but going cold turkey is hard.

I adulted today.

I filled a yard waste bin with trimmings off the fallen tree, hacked off a chunk of the trunk for further reduction for the fireplace, and salvaged a length of grip-sized wood for a wand handle.

Then I used a plumber's drain augur and extracted a wad of hair from the master bathroom so our shower drains properly again.

I know I said "tolerance break" but I could totally go for a bowl right now. I hurt.

@PrincessOfCats Well, that's basically what magic is, yes. It's a symbol table for user-inaccessible memory.

@starkatt I don't know that there's much to say, but if you have specific questions I'm happy to try to answer them. I would rather be transparent where I can.

LB: For those who wanted to hear the tale of why things changed.

Visions are good but they must be carried into the world to be truly felt. Be the vision you've had this festival. Embody it. This is what I tell everyone, every year at Bandaza, and it's true of Glowtide as well. This can be every day if we let it. This feeling of making our dreams real can be part of our daily lives if we work towards it.

@Fuego Take a rain check? I'm there from the 4th to the 9th this year.
