@body@mastodon.social There are no neutral media, though. Every text reflects its creator, even if only in medium and skill. There are media whose messages we cannot see because they mirror our own and thus are perceived as coming from within us, and there are those whose messages we can see because they differ from ours and thus are perceived as external.

@frameacloud Given how my people I know who self-identify their gender as their fursona species, this isn't much of a stretch.

@silby@spooky.camp @shel The collapse of shared curation of Frame Zero has given rise to Liberalism the Egregore's victims attempting to create a new shared vision based on the promises of and nostalgia for the past which were never real but only perceived. Samsung's HypnoTV is just the manifestation of Space Ghost's purchase of a mind-erasing kit. We have all always been responsible for curating the narratives of our own lives. Now we have to do it without a shared external frame.

@silby@spooky.camp @shel I believe that life is fundamentally an absurd proposition, in the sense that there is no inherent meaning to Frame Zero and any attempt to impose meaning upon it is necessarily artificial. Living in good faith demands that we remain aware of the reality tunnels in which we place ourselves. Reality was never aligned with Neoliberalism the Egregore's reality tunnel, and as people have woken up to that understanding, those who remain within it are panicking.

@silby@spooky.camp @shel To take this a bit further, I would argue that reality has always been compared to stories because we cannot experience reality directly; we have only the experiences from our internalized universes from which to interpret the feedback of our senses and thoughts. However, in the past, group consensus about Frame Zero was an implicit cultural value of modern democracies. These days, that value is no longer shared by all groups equally.

th' genders (?)

@Soreth These are both valid and non-contradictory descriptors.

@Wsteria@tootplanet.space I'm setting that up in 8000 words, give or take. Even something as simple as a character's internal monologue or some clues in an environment can establish backstory. "This is it; this just has to come together, and then I can put all this behind me." So many things can be established with a single sentence, or even just the right word choice. You can pack a lot of stuff into a few words if you work at it.

@Wsteria@tootplanet.space Like, in the story I'm currently building, I have a character I want to end up questioning the foundations of his world, so I asked "what would it take somebody to doubt everything they believed in?" So, I set up a situation in which he's done everything right by his ethics as he understands it, and he's still on the verge of collapse. And then I force him to confront somebody who ruins his big plan to run away from his problems.

@Wsteria@tootplanet.space Well, when I'm trying to figure out how a character needs to change over the course of a story, I ask where I want a character to end up, and then I ask what it would take to push that character to that state. Then I ask how to set up that situation, and I look for seeds in what I already know about the setting or the character to give me a starting point to write the scene.

@Wsteria@tootplanet.space What would you like to know? How can we help?

user interfaces are bad because they allow people to use the computer

@Fuego Searching Google Images for "cybre" yields fascinating results.

@Azure @jakebe So much of life today can be explained by that sentiment.

@adeptomega Oog. You okay?

Hot Take

@jakebe @Azure Just don't go googling for "medium rare chicken." You might be bemused. You might be horrified. The human race is fascinating in its variety of responses to terrible ideas.

@KoBunny ... if you get brought curry, will you have a chance to eat it? ^v^

Magic Prerelease Shenanigans

@KoBunny That sounds exhausting, love. Come have some curry. ^v^
