@kara_dreamer@witches.town Thank you!! *hugs back* ^^ It wasn't my first time soldering commercial headphone wire, but no one is ever fond of doing that. Once the wires get too small for plastic and rubber shielding, it just gets ugly no matter what you do. >..<

I was astounded at how thin the wire on the microphone was. The positive wire was probably half the gauge of that headphone wire. o.=.o;

@mawr SUCCESS!! This was a pain. The 3.5mm female audio jack is stereo, and the mic is mono, and the wires are super super thin and braided together. D:

I Converted the stereo 3.5mm jack to mono, then carefully got the thing soldered together.

Once together, a 4 post 3.5mm splitter to mic and headphones, manage the cables, then use a 4 post 3.5mm cable to plug into any compatible device. Voi la! Headset!

I wasn't as granular on this because this was a lot more frustrating. XD

@mawr After taking some time to practice with the female 3.5mm jacks, it's time for part 2.

I'm nervous about this one, wish me luck!

@Felthry Yes, but space is at a premium in that casing, and the insulation on those wires worked just fine while they were encased in a rubber curly cord casing, so I think it'll be just fine. ^^

@mawr and then the headphone jack goes in! That was a pain to screw into place. I also drilled and cut into the retention bracket to make enough clearance to fold them up. ^^

Done with part one! On to part 2...

@mawr next is the wiring of the headphone jack! Wiring up for a test first, then solder, then heat shrink tubing to seal it up all nice. ^^

Show thread

@mawr I don't have appropriately sized spare wire, so I'm using the wire from the cable. It's insulated with super thin epoxy or something, so I have to burn that off the tips, first.
