I can pinpoint the exact moment I realized the show would be something more than a bunch of silly D&D gags: when Killian say "We need to stop him, before he destroys The Entire World."

Give it until episode 8 (wherein Magnus does horrible things to an automaton) to decide whether you like it or not. I know that's a long lead time, but the first arc is pretty rough yet still necessary.
