there seems to have been an issue with spam with large gaming channels that had beef with each other, I'm guessing that's what brought the feature to the attention of management

like, I agree that they're good, I've used them and even translated some at one time

@elilla channel owners had to review subtitles, but it's a lot of work and how are they supposed to review subtitles in a language they don't speak?

@elilla the issue with community subtitles was that there was no way for channel owners to review them and people put purposefully wrong ones or ads. I don't think Youtube is opposed to sourcing free labor from users
