Mastodon features I'm quietly happy for: other users not being able to see a list of everything I fav.

I should make this clear:

When I complain about capitalism, I'm not attacking business owners and such. I genuinely understand the the mental gymnastics necessary to balance one's own comfort with the desire to not sink anyone else's lower.

When I confidently say the words "Smash capitalism!" in the context of person or persons to be censured, I speak of the ones who hold sufficient power to steer us in a better direction, yet continue to make everyone else's situation worse. Fuck those guys.

i took the wrong stairway at work. the door locked behind me. a sign read EXIT AT LOBBY LEVEL 3. i was on the 45th floor.

i stood in light on the landing with darkness above and below me. i started walking and the lights came on at each flight, triggered by motion detectors. the only noise was the click of relays switching the lights, marking my progress.

some endless time later i arrived at the lobby & emerged. people, sunlight, noise. i hadn't been sure i'd see any of them again.

What's new from the Entoptic Key studio? My design, let me show you it. And you can put it on tee-shirts, mugs, mousepads, hazmat suits, bandanas, hoodies, and the like! Head to entoptickey.com/ for all the details and other designs @literorrery and I have conjured up.

Also: Bonus points if you get the joke before clicking through for the explanation. awoo.space/media/LAaCcWLHROGYH

I still get sad every time I remember David Bowie is dead. :(

mastodon instances only live as long as the owner/admin is interested in running them - and often running these types of things for a public audience is pretty thankless. idk, if you're on one of the bigger public or semi-public instances, thank your admin

Okay, I need to sort and organize all my stuff.

1. Stuff I actually use - this is easy
2. Stuff I'll probably use in the future
3. Stuff I just like having around
4. Stuff I've been keeping around in case someone else might want it
5. Technically there's nothing wrong with this
6. This might have a use to someone.
7. It feels weird to throw this away
8. ????
9. Wtf is this
10. I don't remember this ever being here
11. Hello from Narnia
12. Clothes that don't fit anymore

Sometimes, one of the hardest things about having a disability is in admitting to yourself when you need or would benefit from a tool to assist you with things that non-disabled folks can easily do on their own.

Relatedly: If you have weapons grade ADHD like I do, get a text-to-speech plugin for your browser. It makes a world of difference in reading particularly "slippery" articles and texts.

The part of last night's dream that continues to haunt my brain into the day is how flustered I was at the reg desk, trying to keep track of my fursuit head, purse, and wallet while being surrounded by the energetic chaos of the first day of a convention, all the while being frustrated and embarrassed that all I wanted was to get through all this, get the head on, step outside my own mental bullshit, and just be a happy cute friendly carefree plush critter for a while.

I dreamt that I was wearing a kangaroo fursuit at a furry con, but I didn't have the head on yet and I was at the head of the registration line so I was trying to plunk down cash but kept coming up with tattered small bills until I handed over a $253 bill and then couldn't find the fursuit head I'd been carrying.

I... don't even.

Capitalism, workers and automation

This idea that wealth is produced by workers (mastodon.social/users/Gargron/), is outdated, erases people with disabilities who can't work, and is proven false/unhelpful/incomplete by the rise of automation youtube.com/watch?v=7Pq-S557XQ
What will the 'workers' say when they are no longer needed because their jobs are now done by machines?

Don't base your entitlement to material wealth on the fact that you work.

It speaks of my obsessions that every single character in that previous toot was right there in my custom Windows keymap. I did not open CharMap, BabelMap, any Unicode-character-finding website, or anything. Not even "Alt-codes".

I'm working on the next revision of that keymap....

Mastodon Tips:
1. You can send a DM by clicking the little globe and switching it to "direct"
2. You can set a content warning on toots, which makes their text hidden until the reader chooses to expand it
3. You can use the connections you form on here to make lifelong friendships and seize the means of production
