politic-adjacent, weird philosophy

@body@mastodon.social Its not that Moloch is guaranteed to win. It's that Moloch's odds are really good without loading the dice.

Mind you, we have tools to load the dice.

politic-adjacent, weird philosophy

@body@mastodon.social My point is that while it's possible to derive it, there's no guarantee that it will be derived, or that having been derived it will be adopted or "enforced" (Which is really more like monitored/reported/rebalanced). Moloch still wins in any closed system in which discovery and widespread enactment don't happen, not because better isn't possible but because better never occurs to anyone or never gets the chance.

politic-adjacent, weird philosophy

@body@mastodon.social I would say it's less that Moloch is inherently superior, and more that Moloch can only be overcome with intentionality and conscious deliberation. Just proving resimulationism is insufficient without a moral framework, and the moral framework isn't ever going to be inherent to the simulation, or at least it will never be visible to any layer below the current one.

@irisjaycomics ... tempting, believe it or not.

Much will depend on how much I feel like leaning into "learn to camp" and how much I feel like admitting I'm Thoroughly Suburban Peafowl(tm).

Is there a CVE yet for the vulnerability that lets a human use a computer?

a take on personhood

@KitRedgrave@glitch.social Not all humans implement all parts of the Person API either.

Respect

washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-

Stop trying to appease people who intentionally take your words out of context. Stop trying to make peace with people who deliberately misconstrue what you say for personal gain. Stop trying to find common ground with people who've made it clear they're spoiling for a fight.

Call them out for their tactics and do what you were going to do anyway.

US Politics, Economics, Retirement

@mawr I'm one of the rare weirdos in that I have a plan that isn't "socialism." I never know how to feel about that beyond "lucky." xvx

I ought to get up. I have a full day of work ahead.

I just want to lie here and work on my worldbuilding.

CW: Birdsite link, Results of Amazon Tax bill before the Seattle Council

@Aradia@mastodon.social Got a non-Twitter link, by any chance? My phone thinks Twitter is malware.

Trans issues; coming to terms with facial hair

@Ulfra_Wolfe There's forever a balance to be found between doing the dumb stuff in life because people expect it even if it's meaningless, and calling out societal expectations as cultural artifacts. I can't say where anyone else's line is. Me, I shave every other day or so and I do my best to shrug off those who judge me on my shadow on the days I choose to let slide.

Trans issues; coming to terms with facial hair

@Ulfra_Wolfe Personally, I would look at it more in terms of comfort and goals. Are you happy with how you look? Are you able to accomplish the things you want to accomplish while navigating others' expectations? If so, then you're good. If not, ask yourself what it will take to get there and do those things, but don't pursue beauty standards for their own sake.
