I've just seen a live Darmok at Tanagra. It's happened. We're communicating in shared culture. (( And yes, the fact that I, too, am referencing Darmok at Tanagra _as_ a "Darmok at Tanagra" expecting people will understand, and they will, is itself a use of cultural referent in place of literal content, a cultural metasyntactic variable, and memetic $FOO.
@thefishcrow Better?
Great, buni baked-off
I really should implement a rule that, unless I can get a specific exemption from someone else in the house, I'm not allowed to eat any junk food I don't bake myself while I'm high. It will either ensure that I make really wild and insane junk food, that I don't eat any junk food, or that I have an amazing story to tell the insurance adjustors.
@baxil Someday, we will find it. *hugs*

@zx3 @Momentrabbit This has been my experience for most of my life, and it's terrible, and you especially don't deserve it. It's sometimes all we can do to try to leave things a little nicer than we found them, fighting against the creeping sands. That nobody has left you that support or given you the chance to leave it for others is a shame, and I want to say now that I see you and I wish you had a better situation.
Hot take, whinging, technology, obsolescence
I've spent the entire day hearing on debugging Docker build files, I'm not enjoying it, my opinion of the technology is worsening by the moment, and that much more convinced that the real solution is to build a distributed web platform like GCP that will build and run my code in a completely virtualized environment, rather than deal with AWS' IaaS nonsense. But GCP doesn't feel ready either; the code metaphors aren't there yet.
@Mycroft At that size, he's too small for them to put text on his face. How will they promote his movie?
@kaniini@mastodon.dereferenced.org "This is the language whose metaphor I didn't quite grasp at first that, once slotted into place, now makes perfect sense to me, so the industry has decided it's old fashioned." My office is already trying to evolve past it into Go, which... I'm sure it's a perfectly /nice/ language, but... enh. I wish retirement were closer.
@dvl Glad I could help! I spent way too long doing sysadmin work before I became a dev, and it's nice to get a chance to use the l33t PERL sk1llz I had to pick up back then in my new role. :)
@thefishcrow Based on that reading, probably Demeter.
For personal reasons, though, I'm totally "Hephaestus," though it's kinda rude of me to deadname her and she gets a lot better once she gets some things sorted out. Goes by Xalki in my head these days.
I should write down my pantheon's evolution somewhere at some point. My life continues to grow strange.
sea witch takes (the disney little mermaid film)
@neonNeptunian Ursula: best trans octopode-friend. =n.n=
@tiden That conversation has started in a few corners. I don't know where it is in progress, but it's starting.
Made of Music
@Stephen_Stone I'm poststructuralist enough to let Death of the Author negate Ezra Koenig's interpretation of his own work with something moderately more charitable, and I can't pass judgment on what others do or don't like. It's not on me to state objectively whether a particular piece of media does or doesn't mean, or should or shouldn't be enjoyed. All I can say is that under the most positive interpretation I could give it, I didn't enjoy what I saw.
