Quasi-Compulsory Sexuality in Communities [6] (Addendum)
@mawr I want to fully affirm that your feelings are valid. Whatever you feel, you feel. More than anything, I want to make sure you feel like you're being heard and respected.
At the same time, I admit I'm struggling because I don't see the same pattern you do, or I'm not seeing it as a pattern in the same way. I think I see what you're describing, but to me it's the rare exception, not the rule.
Quasi-Compulsory Sexuality in Communities [6] (Addendum)
@mawr Again, I can only speak to my lived experience, but so far as I know, that sequence has been the vast minority of social interactions. It's happened maybe half a dozen times in the twenty or so years I've really been out and active, compared against the hundreds of snuggles that ended with nothing more and no expectations of further. To call it a script, to me, vastly overplays its commonness and inevitability.

@Momentrabbit That is aggressively bullshit, bunny, and you have my deepest condolences. Smash capitalism. *offers pettin's*
Quasi-Compulsory Sexuality in Communities [6] (Addendum)
@mawr So, to be sure: I've been part of that sequence of events, and I'm not going to sit here and claim I haven't. I question whether it's common enough to justify being a "script" and on what scale and scope it has to happen for it to it to become such. I'm assuming you mean "over the course of a night in a social space not originally explicitly earmarked as sex-inclusive."
Quasi-Compulsory Sexuality in Communities [6] (Addendum)
@mawr I can only speak to my own lived experience, as always, but I can't attest to the existence of that script, and I think that's a lot of what's throwing me about this discussion. I hear you, I value you, and I affirm that you and likely others feel this way, but that script doesn't seem to match my perceptions or my history, and I don't really know what to say beyond that without risking negating your own perceptions.
@Soreth I made a loaf of no-knead rosemary-and-smoked-sea-salt bread in the dutch oven over the weekend.
It didn't last the day.

@adeptomega Let me know of you need anything, hon. I drove today so I can hit the store on the way home.
A post-work society is more viable than you might think, and long overdue:

When I see how badly standard employment can handle mental disabilities, the failures of the system are unmistakable.
@Oneironott IT'S BEEN?
@Mycroft ... the install, upgrade, or uninstall? There's different categories.
transphobic bullshit
@Fuego @adeptomega Contains spoilers, obviously. And CW for Bad Shit.
More Work Excitement
16.04 LTS Ubuntu has a bug in its VPN software that's solved in 17.10, but there's no LTS release scheduled until 18.04 which is too long to be without working VPN software. So I'm having to abandon the LTS platform for my development even though my job is focused on system and service stability and customer experience because I have to chase a bug patch rather than expect people to backport system-breaking bugfixes to their supposed long-term support platform.
"Fun."
What is postfurry? At the very core, it's a way of approaching what identity means.
Furry has been all about answering the question "what if people can also be animals?"
Postfurry says "okay, we can go even further than that. What if we claim authorial control over every aspect of identity? We're animal-people sure, but that's only a starting point. If the poststructuralists are right and all meaning is negotiable, let's go exploring and write some meanings of our own."
@DiaryOfIceTea So go take a nap, zen.
Food, Appropriation, Question (3/3)
@demonkind Nowhere yet and Great Work I hope not. My parents are fourth-generation American Mutts who didn't seem to care who their ancestors were and are estranged from their respective families, and I'm estranged from both of them. I'd love to be able to blog about my cooking -- it's a skill I've actively been developing for years -- but once something is online, all hopes of managing context is lost.
