@Soreth I may have a _setting_....
Work, Documentation for the future
Last night, I had a good long talk with @mawr about an ongoing saga at work, and I realized that I'm a lot angrier about it than I've let myself notice before. If I were being treated as an equal to my peers, my decision not to embrace every new hotness would've been respected as a reflection of my role as team lead of the Site Reliability domain. Instead it's instantly interpreted as resistance to progress, regardless of my reasons.
Anyone remember the Buzz Lightyear cartoon they made? Also remember how it had this fetish? https://slime.global/media/A8oZx8VrTgPRAt4qg6k
@indi Sadly, yes. I regularly smell sick in my car when I'm not feeling well and I have to drive, thanks to an unfortunate period in grad school right before my gallbladder removal. =x.x=
@Soreth I'd love to see your answers for round 1!

Why Phoenix is Closed This Morning
@KoBunny Oh wow. Stay safe/warm/dry, bunny!
"Like, where do you get your ideas?"
I was at the dentist this morning getting a deep cleaning, and they numbed half my face to get under the gumline. I told the nurse it felt like she'd turned my face to stone.
I now have a story seed for a medieval plastic surgeon that uses petrification potions, sculptor's tools, and modeling clay to give people their perfect bodies. Of course, no magical ritual is without risk, and side effects do happen.... #writing
@Rosemary @Felthry That's an excellent round number. "I like nice round numbers." And what better place to spend it than on acknowledging what an awesome number it is? Not only is it a power of two, but its exponent is a perfect number. If I were more of a numerologist, I might mark that as Meaningful. As it is, I'll simply take a moment of delight in the pure mathematic exploration. Thank you both for reminding me!
@ElectricKeet ... I thought I was the automated system in the family. At least @adeptomega is half-automated. You're fully hand-animated, last I checked.
@bea Garbage disposal chewing on a spoon.
thought experiment (uber + abuse?)
@adeptomega A coop running the software could make the app a benefit of membership and make the payment system a lookup for membership. A taxi service could publish normal fares. A non-profit could add a small percentage as a service fee up to some cap earmarked for infrastructure maintenance. And all three could use the same core software.
thought experiment (uber + abuse?)
@adeptomega I'm in no state of mind to tackle #1 right now. #2 I would probably manage by defining a "payment model API' that puts the entire business of determining how money gets managed into a subsystem which must be implemented by the operator of the software much like the CoC or federation list has to be managed by the host of a Masto instance. That allows for different people to control pricing as they wish.
