question for you all 'cause I like subverting norms:

If you could master a single physical skill/talent overnight, what would it be and why?

@Felthry I was thinking more realistic in present day, but I totally would be all about some shape shifting. :D

@mawr Seriously though probably some form of art (if that counts) or music performance

@mawr Oh, or maybe hand-soldering really fine-pitch parts. TSSOPs are annoying.

@Felthry Oh gods yes they are. D:

I feel like my soldering skills are on par with a neanderthal holding a hot club. X3

@mawr well TSSOPs aren't meant to be hand-solderable so don't feel too bad. The smallest package I'm comfortable soldering by hand is a SOP, or if we're counting passives, an 0604--provided I get tweezers and some sort of glue and/or extra limbs and/or helpful person to hold it in place.

I guess I could probably do a SOT-23-3 too but definitely not a SOT-23-6

@Felthry I can make wires become joined with metal glue and a hot thing :D

@Felthry Totally! That's awesome. :D What kind of art?

@mawr uh, probably visual art of some kind <strike>so i can draw furry porn</strike>.

@mawr Poi, probably? Something i've already been wanting to learn/been a novice at for a long time. Glow motion arts. :3

@Jacel @neonNeptunian Nope! It's gotta be a single thing you suddenly master the heck out of. :D

It's a question that's not-so-subtly about the priorities of personal goals. ^^

@Jacel @neonNeptunian You mean making magic hand movements around objects? Heck yeah!! :D

@mawr Oh gods is this a question, probably flow stuff, it's enjoyable and I'm really annoyed at my lack of progress >,,>

@mawr Poi, Staff... Maybe meteors? Idk, Flowstuff!

@IrisKalmia Rock on! ♥️ :D

I'd not heard of that as flow before, but it makes a lot of sense!

@mawr Juggling or piano. It's a great party trick, one for body control, one for hand control.

@literorrery Nice!

Also, I totally read this initially as "juggling a piano" which... o.=.o!

@mawr Except honestly my first priority would be playing a keyboard and knowing music theory to know /what/ to do with it.

@emanate In this, the age of our lord 2017, knowing how to play the piano means you can do damned near anything, music-wise. Excellent choice. ♥️

@mawr Either performance (dance) or performance (bass guitar)

@kelseyhusky I'd love to see you dance. ♥️

You're already getting pretty good at the bass. ^^

@mawr You only say that cause you haven't seen me dance. And I'm good at 3 songs on the bass, which is much, much different than playing bass.

_playing_ is knowing how to translate the melodic ideas in your head into actual notes on strings, it requires a much better ear for music and a much deeper knowledge of how to use your instrument than i have.

@kelseyhusky @mawr What is it with trans peeps and basses? I have one I hardly know how to do a thing with but they seem shockingly common in the community >>

@IrisKalmia @mawr I've got a rant about how playing bass is so fucking necessary in like 95% of music, but how bass players almost never get recognition except from other bass players, or when the purposefully call attention to themselves by also being the leaders/ front people like Sting, or the guy from Primus and many others.

But I can't really make things flow from the idea in my head to the words on the screen. which is also my problem with playing bass, and writing.

@kelseyhusky @mawr it's a valid rant, I'm honestly not sure why the bass gets so little love and respect, it has such a range and pretty much every song thats *raved* about is defined by it's bassline ;-;

@IrisKalmia It's not that it doesn't get respect, bass just doesn't get attention by _default_. Most bands are structured to give the singers and lead guitarist the most spotlight, cause that's where the melody and lyrics are. But do those that know, or those that specifically listen for it, bass is just as complex, as compelling as lead and lyrics, sometimes even more so, because it has to work together with everything else and still sound good.

@kelseyhusky I haven't seen you dance 'cause you don't dance. You've seen me dance and I dance horribly. But dance isn't always about looking good, either. :D

@mawr you haven;t seen me dance cause I dance horribly too. And dance is mostly about looking good ^^; The rest of it is trying to attract a sexing partner, which means looking good to potential partners. so, its really all about looking good.

@kelseyhusky @mawr Looking good while dancing is about a lot more than dancing perfectly, merely being able to say "fuck it, I'm gonna dance and all these people are gonna see" is a *good* look in my most humble of opinons~

@IrisKalmia @mawr Well, i guess, but for me, it goes back to the taste/talent curves/graph. Look for the Ira Glass quote on "The Gap" if you'd like to know more.

@kelseyhusky How many dances have you been to? The average one I've seen is all about moving your body and having fun. Looking good is a side effect of lots of practice. X3

@mawr Prestidigitation. A small skill to bring about a lifetime of wonder in onlookers

@Soreth That would be so cool!! Masters of slight of hand come close enough to be indistinguishable from magic in my eyes. How do you imagine prestidigitation in the material world?

@mawr A mere bagatelle, my dear. Nothing up my sleeves - no sleeves at all in fact - but look here? I'm now holding a plush dove with the Seven of Clubs inked on it. Is this your bird?

@starkatt Oh cool!! Is that something you've been learning or just something you want to learn?

@mawr I have zero experience with it but my desire to make music keeps getting stronger and I think cello is the sexiest instrument.

@starkatt That's fantastic! :D

The Cello is in fact a super sexy instrument. ♥️

@mawr @starkatt the cello is such a sexy instrument you have no idea

it's got that delicious middle range that makes it super super versatile

@typhlosion @starkatt @mawr I played viola in high school. It's one octave higher than cello and very little music actually includes viola parts ;.;

@mawr hmmmm. I keep thinking about this and I really can't think of anything. like, I can think up plenty, and reasons why, but it's all whim, and there's nothing to decide between them, y'know?

@green Hee! It's a neat thing to think about at the very least! I've got a few in mind myself that I have a hard time picking between.

@mawr for some reason the first thing that came to mind (once I understood what you meant; at first I thought "if you could gain any physical skill *and ability*" and had my usual "flying or invisibility?" quandry) was tatting/lace-making. I've done a little tiny bit of it a long time ago, and very much enjoyed it. it's my spider side maybe? XD

@green Oh rad!! :D That's such intricate and awesome work when it's done well :D ♥️

@Ratttz @mawr I'd *love* to learn Eskrima or some other knife-based thing at some point
