I hadn't realized how much I missed this show. It's hacky and tropey and broad, but I love it, maybe BECAUSE of those traits.

Half the fun is picking out all the unexamined assumptions and having a good think over them. Like, I love all the episodes with "pure good," "pure evil," "superior" or "perfect" beings--which seem to be a major recurring theme--and picking apart stuff like "Why does being 'good' mean being non-violent to the point of being completely ineffectual?" :) (e.g. "Angels and Demons")

And I've always had a soft spot for how completely disinterested RD is in continuity. It's virtually nitpick-proof, not that this has stopped the True Fans from trying, because it just DOES NOT CARE. The sci-fi is all joke-driven. the technobabble is all contextual and subject to retcon at any moment, and I actually like it better that way.

And I'll always love the show for having the gall to retcon and ENTIRE SEASON FINALE with a screen crawl. That's a devotion to "let's get the fuck on with it" that... well, I'd love to see Westworld do it. :p

I found my hidden trove of Red Dwarf S1-8, so... yeah, I'm doing pretty good.

@hummingrain There is apparently a weed-friendly B&B in Capitol Hill and when I finally make it out there again I am sorely tempted to just get it for 2 weeks and hold court in whatever THC-fueled subdimension opens up there. :)

OK, listen. It looks like Trump is at least paying lip service to the idea of cutting us all a support check. I'm skeptical as all hell, but hey, maybe someone's persuaded him we'll see it as a loyalty bribe.

But Peg and I are actually fine. I just got a large raise AND hours boost. I worked from home anyhow. If we do actually get anything from the government, it'll just be gravy.

So I'm making the commitment now: barring some serious force majeure wrecking my finances, I'm gonna pay anything I get forward. There are people who are gonna need it much more than we are. Hold me to it, please.

Although when this all clears, if you'd like to pay me back in, say, hospitality and weed from Seattle folk when I finally get to visit, I wouldn't be averse. ^___^

Yeah. I'm done hoping these people actively defying reality/science/expertise and smirking about it will somehow pull through.

You can do something really stupid and still get my empathy. You can be hostile to my values and still get my compassion. You can even be a jerk and still get my compassion.

But if you're doing all three, and *actively* try to make things worse because your ideology says it's OK, AND you're being an asshole while you're doing it, it gets real hard not to see your demise as a net positive for humanity.

I have gone full Dogville for these people. Let them all die and salt their little towns and businesses, just keep them the fuck away from everybody else.

Well, I've got my list of plague gods compiled.

Now the question is, do I pray for them to spare everybody, or do I pray for them to give those who don't respect them a harsh and necessary lesson?

My humanist instincts say no, no collaborating with nature at its most brutish... but man would I like to see the epidemic-denialists, hoarders, gloaters, and bar-swarmers clocked on the nose good and hard for this.

The main thing keeping me leaning towards the former is the "give them a city and they'll take a continent" nature of plague gods. >_<

(And you'd better believe space raccoons have some pretty high-intensity plague gods.)

Friggin' Shadow The Warrior Queen went and got her face gashed again. >__< Luckily, no sign of infection or swelling so far.

I mean, for all I know, at the Cat Politics level, this was part of an absolutely vital defense of her territory against some cat-level autocrat, and from her perspective this fight made perfect sense.

Still, I'm pissed at her for letting this happen so soon after the Cone Incident.

Fortunately, Peg and I conceded before bed last night that Bast Obliges Us to try to do at least _something_ for her. So we put on our most scratch-proof clothing, lured her in with some treats, petted her until she was calm, and wiped her wound with some Neosporin on a cotton pad.

She was SO GOOD, though. Squirmy and annoyed, and ran straight out the door the moment we were finished, but totally calm and gentle. We're getting used to this from Her Tiny Fierce Majesty.

If she's going to keep living the Barbarian Cat Queen lifestyle, I'm going to have to continue to detach myself emotionally from her fate. I know after her LAST injury that she'd never give in and be an indoor cat. But damn, will I miss that brave little shit when she's gone.
