@Jacel Nah, from what experience I've had with New Yorkers, I'm pretty sure it's a pineapple. Spiky on the outside, sweet but still a little acidic on the inside.

@LexYeen Hm. That makes me wonder if all the animals-doubling-as-tools are actually robots, except for pets like Dino.
The ones that talk, anyway. It would explain how nobody seems to blink at the upkeep required for so many seemingly-sentient organic critters so firmly integrated into society, and why the animals tend to be pretty snarky about it to throw people off. "Eh, it's a living."
