@Rosemary A family I was friends with growing up had a player piano, and I was endlessly fascinated with it. That's a prett accurate description!

(Of course, since the Westworld show came out, it's a lot less obscure...)

engineering, w00, on my bullshit with an idea that is totally me

@kelseyhusky This is a beautiful idea. :-)

I figured out a while back that my wand won't be a wand, but a gauntlet or fingerless glove, with woo stuff attached. I'm very tactile and gestural with my work. :-)

vulture culture

@itsnero I'll take a picture of it when I'm home. It's really pretty!

spooky shit, Seattle History

@irisjaycomics Eh, I've already worked at OfficeMax for about 5 years, same difference. :-P

spooky shit, Seattle History

@irisjaycomics Holy shit, that's the Sears right next to the Shoreline Central Market. I know that building.

I kinda want to explore it now that it's closed. :-D

vulture culture

@itsnero

Years back, on a walk in California, I found the majority of a cow skeleton on a hill (oddly, beneath power lines). I went back with others the next week and gathered the bones. Ribs and vertebrae mostly; someone else grabbed the skull.

Eventually gave most of them away to another friend who liked dead things. But I still have one vertebrae, which was my car talisman for a while, in the back window. :-)

Anxiety mention

@Lobst Hah, yeah, Gordon's being told nothing, especially about how the world got this way while he was gone. So he's got even less control of anything...where in the beginning of the first, he's a /scientist/.

I love how both of the Portal games start out, yeah. Giving agency but also a really good sense of what's happened outaide the testing (or teasing at what isn't said.)

Anxiety mention

@Lobst

Huh. Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.

By contrast, in this light, Half Life 2 starts out walking you through a totalitarian dystopian city, saddled with a messiah complex through the rebels, and strung along in general with no real reason for doing what you're doing.
You're moving forward rather than just reacting and trying to escape a facility, but that makes it feel a bit more drawn out and akward, considering Freeman never speaks.

The Bloop: Ellu Talks About Weird Sea Life

@neonNeptunian Holy heck this is something right out of Subnautica! :-)

@green That was really good (and gleefully morbid). And a nice nod to Douglas Adams. :-)

@Felthry It's pretty awesome otherwise, plus it's not even the only time the LLNL had the world's most powerful laser. They had a previous one seen as the laser by in the original Tron. (as opposed to the NIF, which played the warp core in the second Star Trek reboot film).

They've been building the thing for half my lifetime, in my hometown, so I'm a bit of a nerd about it. :-P

postfurry meta, lewd, light honey-roasting

@LexYeen I've swam with similar glovea, if not those brands. They are very good. :-)

@Leucrotta @Roady_Dragonfae Yeah. The annoying thing is, that's a fairly recent invention in the last... 60-70 years. Prior to that? Gendering kids at all was kinda bullshit. :-P

@KawaSeadrake @Oneironott Re-affirming in my case too. Hadn't seen it before, but it reminded me of some of my own small experiences with islands and oceans. 💙🌊☀️

@literorrery @Oneironott
Pretty sure Keet's therapist won't want to see Vloe--since that's also mine, and she generally doesn't do couples. :-/

@starkatt Tied between two choral songs by the composer Urmask Sisask.
Dominus Vobiscum, or Oremus.
Both of them are...ineffable. And also feature the same phrases sung over each other at varying speeds (especially Oremus, which is literally just that word intoned), plus a haunting planetary scale of notes.

@starkatt Ooh yeah, you've coined it before I think! And it's partly because nobody /ever/ links to the source or context.

Dogma Destroys, Karma Creates

@Roady_Dragonfae Puns aside, though, I really like this formulation!
